The Healthcare Quality Certification Board

It was formed in 1976 to advance the profession ofhealthcare quality management through the development

of a certification program.

The CPHQ program is fully accredited by the National

Commission for Certifying Agencies of the NationalOrganization for Competency Assurance in Washington,

D.C.

It is the only international voluntary certification programin the field of healthcare quality management to achieve

this accreditation.

Current Status

A modest group of 226 adventurous and confidentprofessionals who sat for the first exam in 1984

Over 600 candidates registering for the exam each year.

With an average overall pass rate of 72%, there are over

7500 active CPHQs practicing in the United Sates and

Internationally.

Objectives of Certification

Promote professional standards and improve the practice of

international quality management;

Give special recognition to those professionals who demonstrate an

acquired body of knowledge and expertise in the field through

successful completion of the examination process;

Identify for employers, the public and members of allied

After the Exam

Testing agency forwards list of passing candidatesto HQCB monthly (first week of month for

previous month).

HQCB sends a congratulatory letter, CPHQ pin,

and informational items about 2 weeks after the

close of the month.

Recertification

Obtaining and maintaining documentation of thirty

(30) CE hours over the two-yearrecertification

cycle and payment of a recertification fee.

All continuing education must relate to areascovered in the most current examination content

outline.

Current employment in the quality managementfield is not required to maintain active CPHQ

status.
