Open Cognos Connection
� From the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Internet Explorer. � Internet Explorer opens. � In the Address box, type https://reportcenter.ties.k12.mn.us/crn, and then press Enter.
Click “Yes” to proceed when a security certificate dialog box appears. � The Log on screen appears. � In the User ID box, enter < d3999300###> (##=training number , in the Password box, type
<instructor assigned password> and then click OK. � Cognos Connection opens. From here, we can manage schedules, set personal preferences,
log off, and access Help. We can also set the default portal view, add folders and pages, copy and paste, and search for entries using the Cognos Connection toolbar.
� Authors can also open either Query Studio or Report Studio to create ad hoc or managed reports.
� Click the Public Folders tab. � By default, entries on the Public Folders tab are accessible to all users. � Click EPMS Reporting. � This folder contains four subfolders that contain reports previously created in Query Studio or
Report Studio.

� Create a folder to hold reports � Click the My Folders tab, and then on the toolbar, click New Folder . � The New Folder Wizard page appears. � In the Name box, type <enter your name>, and then in the Description and Screen tip boxes,
type Reports created for <enter your name here>. � In the Screen Tip field, enter <Can you see me?> � Click Finish. � Your named folder is added to My Folders.
� Create a subfolder for more organization. � From the My Folders tab, click on your named folder, and then click New Folder . � The New Folder Wizard page appears. � In the Name box, type <my subfolder>, and then in the Description and Screen tip boxes,
type <my subfolder items are stored here>. � In the Screen Tip field, enter <me too?> � Click Finish. � The subfolder is added to your named folder.

� Create a shortcut. � Beside my subfolder, under Actions, click More, and then click Create a shortcut to this
entry. � Then specify a name and description - New Shortcut Wizard page appears. � Under Location, click Select another location, and then click the My Folders link. � Click OK. � Click Finish, and then click the My Folders link (not the My Folders tab). � A shortcut to the My subfolder folder was added to the My Folders subfolder. Notice the
shortcut icon that appears beside the folder name.

Schedule a Single Report
� You can schedule a
single report to
run at a later time
or on a recurring
date and time.
• Beside My copied report, under Actions, click Schedule – My copied report.
• The Schedule – My copied report page appears. Here we can specify when we want the report to run, how frequently we want to create report outputs, and the format of these report outputs.
• In the Frequency section, click the By Day tab, and then click the button beside Every 1 minute(s).
• In the Options section, select the PDF check box.
• In the Delivery section, ensure that the Save check box is selected, ensure that the button beside Save the report is selected, and then click OK.
• The report is scheduled to run every minute. Because we specified that we wanted to save the report, PDF and HTML report outputs will be created after each two-minute interval.
• After a minute has passed, click Refresh.
• Beside Demo My copied report, under Actions, the View the output versions for this report – My coped report icon shows that the Schedule Management tool has generated report outputs.

Schedule Multiple Reports
� You can set the same schedule for multiple reports by
creating a job.
� A job identifies a collection of reports, report views, and
other jobs that are scheduled to run together and share
the same schedule settings.
• Click on My Folders tab
• On the toolbar in Cognos Connection, click New Job., The New Job Wizard opens.
• In the Name box, type My test job, notice that since we started from “My Folders” the default location displays “My Folders”. Click Next.
• Under Step options, click Add.
• Select the My copied report and My copied report 2 and then click Add.
• The two reports are added to the job.
• Click OK, and then under Job options, click Set.
• We want to specify options for the entire job. The choices that we make on this screen will apply to both of the reports in the job.
• Select the Specify the formats check box, clear the HTML check box, and then select the Excel 2000 Single Sheet check box.
• When this job runs, we want it to generate an Excel version of each report.
• Click OK, and then in the Submission of steps section, click In sequence.
• Click Next, under Delivery ensure the Save the reports check box is selected, and then click Next again.
• Click the By Day tab, click the button beside Every 1 minute(s), and then in the box, delete 1 and type 2.
• Under End, click the End by button, and then set the End by time to be 4 minutes later.
• The Multiple Reports test job will be executed every one minute. In the process, the job will generate two report outputs, both in Excel format.
• Click Finish, click the My Folders link if not already selected, and then view My test job
• The My test job is added to the My Folders.

View and Manage Schedules
� You can use the Schedule Management tool to view and
manage the schedules you have created.
• In the top right corner of Cognos Connection, click the Tools link, and then click Schedule Management.
• The Schedule Management tool opens. The result appears as shown below:
• The Activity tab shows the reports and jobs that have been scheduled and the times they were requested, and also indicates whether they executed successfully. We can see that the Multiple reports test job was requested and executed successfully, producing outputs for both reports.
• Click the Refresh button, and then beside My test job, under Actions, click View outputs – My test job .
• The View report output versions screen appears. We can see that one Excel output was generated for this report.
• Click the Excel icon.
• The report opens in Microsoft Excel format. Close Excel.
• Click Close, and then click the Schedule tab.
• We can see the My test job that we created and scheduled previously. We now want to disable the schedule so that it does not run anymore.
• In the Actions column, click More, and then click Set properties. The Set properties – My test job screen appears.
• Click the Job tab, select the Disable the schedule check box, and then click OK.
• The schedule for the job is disabled. No more report outputs will be created by this job until we enable the schedule again or run the job manually.
