Transcript of Introduction of Nagaoka Crystallization 2015 · October 11—14, 2015 Nagaoka, Japan BACKGROUND AND...
Introduction of Nagaoka Nagaoka is locating in Niigata prefecture being the north west direction from Tokyo and close to Japan sea. Nagaoka has a population of 280,000 and a typical middle-class city in Japan. Nagaoka is a quiet city with many green, river (Shinano river: the longest river in Japan), mountains, museum, and so on. Nagaoka (and also Niigata prefecture) produces most tasty rice and very popular rice wines (sake). Nagaoka Grand Hotel is located near Nagaoka JR (Railway) station and just in the downtown. There are many restaurants with reasonable prices near the Nagaoka JR station and in the downtown.

BACKGROUND AND SCOPE
Continuing the series of previous symposia organized by the members of the TC 7 of the International Commission on Glass (ICG) in
Goslar, Germany 2012 (J. Deubener),Iguaçu Falls, Brazil 2009 (E. D. Zanotto),Jackson Hole, Wyoming U.S.A. 2006 (M. Davies),Sheffield, England 2003 (P.F. James),Vaduz, Liechtenstein 2000 (W. Höland) andFlorianopólis, Brazil 1996 (E.D. Zanotto),
Crystallization is one of the most important topics in thermodynamically metastable glasses, and its behavior and kinetics are related to the feature of the base glass such as chemical composition and structure. To understand crystallization in glass means to understand glass itself. Through the design and control of nucleation and crystallization, various functional glass-ceramics have been developed and used commercially.
The Symposium provide opportunities for discussions not only on the nucleation and crystallization in glasses and liquids, but also on the topics related to the crystallization such as glass structure. We have a great honor to organize this symposium and welcome glass/materials scientists and researchers, chemists, and physicists to share their ideas and new visions for glasses.
