Manufacturing Conference
This is a major national and international conference on research in manufacturing engineering. Uniquely, the organising committee and participants represent all Irish and Northern Irish third level institutions. The conference showcases research undertaken by postgraduate students and experienced researchers on the following indicative topics: manufacturing process research, manufacturing design, biomanufacturing, machine tool design and development, computer control and automation, energy and sustainability. Introduction
IMC30
In University College Dublin
September 3rd and 4th, 2013
Conference Theme The IMC committee have carefully selected the theme for this year ’ s conference. The theme is """"PPPPrrrrooooffffeeeessssssssiiiioooonnnnaaaallll DDDDeeeevvvveeeellllooooppppmmmmeeeennnntttt ooooffff Engineers for Advanced Manufacturing"Engineers for Advanced Manufacturing"Engineers for Advanced Manufacturing"Engineers for Advanced Manufacturing" and will be addressed in keynote presentations and a dedicated paper session. It is chosen having regard to recent policy reports commissioned on manufacturing, such as the recent report on “ Future Skills Requirements of the Manufacturing Sector to 2020 ” . It is based on the premise that developed economies must differentiate through knowledge-based products, services and business process innovation. For high end manufacturing, this implies that competitive advantage must be engineered into mass-customised products and flexible manufacturing processes by teams who are highly dependent on the excellence of the Manufacturing Engineering discipline. The goal of the conference organisers in selecting this theme is to provide an opportunity for a re-appraisal of engineering courses at all levels, and continuing professional development ( CPD ) programmes, so that Engineers can contribute more effectively and earlier in their professional careers to the ever more demanding needs of industry. There will be two keynote sessions on the theme, broadly differentiated by a policy level focus on skills for high end manufacturing on day two ( Wednesday 4th September ) . The importance of the theme has been affirmed by the high level of support from the Irish Government with an opening keynote address by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mr Richard Bruton. The session on the 4th has been designed to provide an overview of current government policy on manufacturing, with particular reference to the conference theme. It will involve presentations by eminent speakers providing the views of industry, government and academia. It will be chaired to facilitate a topical discussion by all interested parties. Day one ( Tuesday 3rd September ) will involve keynote addresses, and a dedicated paper session, on the theme with speakers presenting world-class research on the theory and practice of the education and professional development of engineers for roles in high end manufacturing. We look forward to welcoming you to the conference The IMC CommitteeThe IMC CommitteeThe IMC CommitteeThe IMC Committee More Information: More Information: More Information: More Information: www.ucd.ie/imc30
