INTRODUCTION
In modern society, there are many socially difficult issues that young children face on a daily basis.
One of the best ways to teach them how to deal with such challenges is through Tae Kwon Do.
Through whole body development, an individual learns not only self-protection but also patience,
modesty, courtesy and respect for others. It leads to development of the whole person, morally,
spiritually and physically.
WHY DOES A YOUNG CHILD NEED TAE KWON DO?
● Opportunity – At a young age, children’s bodies are at an opportune stage for development.
Tae Kwon Do teaches flexibility as well as promotes physical interaction of the entire body. This
in turn leads to development of good “habits” and a positive attitude towards exercise which they
can carry with them into adulthood.
● Coordination – Tae Kwon Do movements incorporate usage of 90% of the large muscles of the
body And about 80% of the small muscles. It gives the body positive reinforcement and teaches
the muscles to work together in harmony with one another.
● Mind – Physical development is only part of the picture. Coordination requires focus which
Helps strengthen the mental capacity especially in young children. Concentration skills
developed can be applied to others area such as in school and the arts.
● Challenges – Tae Kwon Do allows children to set goals and reach them in a progressive step by
step manner. Learning of the various forms and movements within grows more complex as they
advance.
Each belt level reached is an achievement for which children develop pride and confidence
within them selves.
CHARACTERISTICS
Children with these characteristics will benefit from Tae Kwon Do. Children who are:
1. Introspective and shy
2. Easily distracted
3. Need of development in the area of courage
4. Physically tire eaily
5. Suspectible to disease such as colds
6. Dependent on adults to help them in many situations
7. Have an inability to socialize in school
8. Lack an appetite
9. Require more physical activity
CONCLUSION
Studies of music, art and other activities are important however a healthy body and mind along with
a strong spirit are equally as valuable and Tae Kwon Do teaches your children all this and more. It is
something they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

DEFINITION OF TAE KWON DO WHAT IS
TAE KWON DO?
TAE KWON DO IS ACTION PHILOSOPHY. IT IS THE KOREAN ART OF SELF-DEFENSE.
LITERALLY TRANSLATED:
TAE…MEANS KICK, JUMP OR SMASH WITH THE FOOT
KWON…DENOTES A FIST, MAINLY TO PUNCH OR DESTROY WITH THE HAND OR FIST.
DO… MEANS THE ART, THE WAY, THE METHOD.
IT IS MUCH MORE THAN THE IMAGE OF THE MARTIAL ARTS PHYSICAL ASPECT.
IT IS DESIGNED AS A NONVIOLENT ART AND SYSTEM OF COMPLETE BODY EXERCISE,
AS WELL AS BEING A WAY OF LIFE. IT INCLUDES PHYSICAL TECHIQUES, MENTAL
DISCIPLINES, AND A DEEP PHILOSOPHY. BY PRACTICING TAEKWON DO ONE CAN
BENEFIT IN THESE WAYS.
1.PHYSICALLY…ONE CAN DEVELOP GOOD COORDINATION, GAIN STRENGTH, INCREASE
FLEXIBILITY, AND IMPROVE CARDIO VASCULAR CONDITIONING. FROM ALL OF THESE

RULES OF THE DOJANG 1. BOW TO THE MASTER UPON ENTERING AND LEAVING THE SCHOOL.
2. BOW TO THE FLAGS WHEN ENTERING OR LEAVING THE DOJANG.
3. ASK PERMISSION FROM YOUR MASTER IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE DOJANG ONCE
CLASS HAS STARTED.
4. NO JEWELRY, GUM, OR PROFANITY IS ALLOWED IN THE DOJANG.
5. BE ON TIME AND READY TO BEGIN AT CLASS TIME. IF YOU ARE LATE YOU ARE ASKED
TO WAIT AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE DOJANG ON BENDED KNEE UNTIL YOU HAVE
PERMISSION TO ENTER.
6. STAND AT ATTENTION WHEN BEING SPOKEN TO WITH “YES SIR OR MA’AM”.
7. WHEN FIXING YOUR UNIFORM OR BELT, TURN AWAY FROM YOUR MASTER AS A SIGN

8. WHILE WAITING FOR CLASS TO BEGIN, PRACTICE YOUR FORM AND TECHNIQUES AND

This colorful whorl design was derived from the taeguk a symbol consisting of two interlocking commas
forming a circle. For ancient Koreans the taeguk symbolized creation as the two commas turning together as
a circle represented yin (female, earth, darkness) and yang (male, heaven, light) whose interaction controls
the workings of the universe. It became a favorite design for decorating fans and everyday household
objects and it is still a popular design motif.
