In this circuit, current flows from the posi6ve of the solar cell through the resistor and the posi6ve of the led to the nega6ve of the solar cell. The solar cell generates 3.4V, while the led only requires 2V. Therefore the resistor is located as such in order to take the excess voltage preven6ng damage to the led.

In this circuit, a microcontroller is being used to generate the chirping sound. The controller requires 2-‐5V in order to operate. The solar cell provides the power which goes into the pre-‐programmed controller that outputs the signal at pin 4 which is connected to the piezo speaker. ���

The solar cell provides the voltage for the controller. In order to keep the voltage at a safe range for controller the three 470 ohm resistor make sure the voltage stays below 2.4V. The signal is then sent to the piezo speaker. The voltage input of the controller is what determines the tone sounded. With prac6ce you can make a song by varying the degree of light absorbed.
