Daneel van Schalkwyk – Cape Winelands

Daneel van Schalkwyk is a Human Resources Manager at the Corporate Office of Pioneer Foods Pty Ltd. She also serves as the Wellness Coordinator, responsible for the Wellness Awareness Programme at the company. After completing her degree at Stellenbosch University Daneel worked for a government institution for eight years as an auditor before joining Pioneer Foods. Coming from a financial and training background she found it quite challenging but very inspiring to become involved in the wellness aspect of a company’s human resources programme.  The current programme has almost 75 trained Wellness Facilitators and 11 000 employees. She strives to create awareness on critical wellness areas in the company as well as to provide necessary life skills to improve the quality of life for all employees. Daneel truly believes that the greatest reward in life is experiencing the difference that you are able to make to someone else’s life.

Mzwandile Mjadu – Central Karoo

Mzwandile Mjadu started his career as a para-legal at the Ubuntu Advice Office in Somerset East for three years before moving to the South African National Parks (SANParks) Board in 1995. He worked in tourism management at the Addo Elephant Park.

Mzwandile was elected the Municipal Mayor of the Blue Crane Route Municipality of Somerset East, Pearslon, and Cookhouse where he held office for six years before returning to SANParks as the Park Manager of the Karoo National Park. He has worked at the park for four years where he has focussed on the management of conservation, tourism and cultural heritage. His passion lies in serving humanity, especially the vulnerable sectors of the community, to this end Mzwandile has served in multiple portfolios in community structures over the years.

Pieter Swanepoel - OverbergPieter was a Personnel Consultant at Old Mutual's head office in Pinelands for 10 years. Following this, he was the owner and Managing Director of People Skills International (Pty) Ltd. He later returned to the corporate sector as the Executive Director for Kromco Ltd, responsible for the company's Human Resoures & Training Division. For the last three years, Pieter is in the process of establishing a BEE (Enterprise Development) training company for Kromco and serves as an Executive Director and minority shareholder.

Pieter was one of the first Certificated Assessment Center Administrators in South Africa and a certificated course facilitator for Psychological Associates Inc, a USA based organisation. He was also a part-time lecturer in business management at the Peninsula Technicon, Cape Technicon and Tygerberg College.

Siraaj Adams – City of Cape Town

Siraaj Adams currently holds the position of HIV Executive at Qualsa Healthcare, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Metropolitan Health Group. He is a clinically trained pharmacist and has acquired business acumen through his Masters in Business Administration. Siraaj was previously employed at Medscheme as a Senior Manager, responsible for beneficiary health risk management. Here he was primarily involved in disease management and product development, including the ambulatory PMB unit. His role entailed continuously improving upon existing managed care programmes, productivity, clinical guidelines, clinical outcomes and quality assurance. Prior to his senior management appointment, he was employed by Aid for AIDS in 2004 as Operations Manager.

Siraaj’s current studies include a Diploma in Financial Planning (CFP) at Stellenbosch University.

Jenny Abernethy – City of Cape TownJenny Abernethy has a background in nursing with a particular focus on community and occupational health, Jenny joined Woolworths in 1993 as the National Health Service co-coordinator. In her role she is in charge of the National Occupational Health Service, including disabilities and the Employee Assistance Programme.  Jenny has been working together with other large organisations such as PAWK and the City Council of Cape Town to assist smaller companies in the Western Cape who do not have any programmes or policies in place. She is also currently involved with Retailers Uniting against HIV/AIDS, a collaboration of a group of retailers who provide a cost effective and replicable model that successfully delivers VCT services to staff in stores from a central point in a shopping centre.  Her interest in the HIV/AIDS field has been ongoing since the development of the first Woolworths HIV/AIDS policy in 1986 and the subsequent continuous development thereof. Jenny has always had an interest in PLHIV in the workplace and has fought for HIV to be included as a chronic illness so that it can be dealt with as such, thereby increasing awareness and decreasing stigma. Jenny has attended many debates on the provision of ART to employees and the cost effectiveness thereof. She has also spent time arranging PLHIV to speak at schools and lobbied for the free and easy access to condoms at all schools.

Diane Ritson – City of Cape Town

Diane Ritson has been active in the field of Human Resources Management for the past 30 years. Since 1999 she has honed her strategic skills to assist companies to manage the impact of HIV and AIDS on their business. She is the founder and CEO of Siriti Africa whose services range from strategy and policy development to the implementation of an internationally awarded “Own Your Status” workplace programme. She has also launched her multi-media education programme in seven official languages.

Diane specialises in the systemic impact of this disease on both business and society with a vision to give as many people as possible an informed choice with regards to HIV and AIDS.

Sugen Naidoo – City of Cape Town

Sugen Naidoo is a qualified medical doctor with a Masters in Business Administration. He has a keen interest in the development of leadership and small business enterprises, qualitative governance processes and how people work. He has been responsible for pioneering in 2003 the provider-driven managed care and IT initiative, Emerging Market Healthcare Ltd (EMC), of which he is now the Chairperson. The company is accredited by the Council of Medical Schemes, is a leading purveyor of affordable healthcare solutions, contracting for the low-end medical scheme market and for the supply of practice management, risk management and managed care tools for healthcare professionals in the country.

Sugen’s non-executive board positions include being an elected Board Member of the South African Medical Association (August 2007 to date) and serving as Chairman of the recently created Audit and Risk Committee and on the main board. His passion is bringing about meaningful change in the private and public healthcare industry.

Oscar Solomons - Oscar is an Economic Development Practitioner and owns a construction training company. He is Secretary General of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC) and a member of the Provincial Development Council (PDC). Further, Oscar represents Business Western Cape on the UWC Council and is also a Council member.
