FOR TODAY...Investment OptionsTraditionally investments were recommended solely on the grounds of performance or return. This approach fails to take in to account two crucial factors in recommending and managing an investment portfolio. Volatility of the investments (or portfolio risk) and underlying costs of the portfolio are vital parts of a successful strategy.

We use our leverage to source well priced and well run solutions from the whole of the market. In addition we have built some bespoke Multi Asset Portfolios.

All of this activity is governed by our Group Investment Committee.

SIPPsMany clients will have accumulated pension assets throughout their lives, some they will have even forgotten about. We will work with them to establish if they can achieve financial savings, greater risk control and a more practical approach to management.

Some of your clients will want complete control of their pension then that’s where Self Invested Pensions Plans (SIPPs) can come in. They offer the highest degree of choice and flexibility of any UK personal pension scheme. We can assess whether this type of pension arrangement can be suitable for them or their business.

FOR TOMORROW...Later Life PlanningRealising the need for long-term care is not something we all want to face, however it’s essential to get the right care advice straight away for you or your loved ones when you realise you require it.

If you don’t get the right care advice when you realise you need care, you or your loved ones could use what resources you have to fund the care, putting your home and other savings and possessions at risk. If funds run out it could mean moving to a cheaper home and there may not be enough left in the pot to buy an Immediate Needs Annuity to cover the rest of the care fees.

Getting specialised advice from a suitably qualified adviser is critical as the financial and legal framework for the funding of care is very complex. Our advisers who are accredited by the Society of Later Life Advisers are experts in this field and have to follow stringent guidelines to maintain our accreditation.

Auto EnrolmentAuto enrolment is not just a pension issue; it impacts HR, payroll and finance functions in many ways. For many organisations the process could be costly and resource intensive. Being ready to comply with auto-enrolment could be a journey of considerable length; the impact is so much more than just extra pensions’ cost.

Early preparation is critical to ensure the changes required to systems, processes and communication material are identified and effectively addressed. A qualified professional adviser will help your client’s business to deliver a comprehensive auto enrolment solution, ensuring they meet their obligations, mitigate as much cost and risk as possible, and deliver exceptional value to the business.

We can help identify any changes in areas such as contribution levels, differences in requirements between new and existing members, and default investment fund. Current schemes may have barriers to joining, e.g. probation periods or age limits that need to be removed.

Wren Sterling can help you assess your client’s scheme and identify where changes are required. We work with your clients to create a long term governance plan and help them embed this in the years to come.

We highly recommend taking advice sooner rather than later as only a small number of advisers are able to deal with this issue.

Inheritance Tax PlanningInheritance Tax (IHT) is seen as one of the least popular taxes and affects an ever increasing number of estates each year. IHT can be an onerous tax where assets left on death in excess of the Nil Rate Band (NRB) will be subject to tax at 40%. For unmarried partners the effect of IHT can be devastating, and therefore advice should be sought.

By careful planning the effect of IHT can be significantly reduced and in many cases removed altogether. There are various exemptions and allowances available that are not taken into account when assessing an estate for IHT. These exemptions and allowances are effective but often, on their own, are insufficient to deal with the whole problem.

• We provide comprehensive employee benefit advice including bespoke Auto Enrolment services

All Wren Sterling advisers agree fees upfront with your clients before they undertake any planning.

Of fees earned at the beginning and over the life time of any solution, 20% of all income generated will be paid to you which will increase the ultimate value of your business.

Of course you may choose to rebate this to the client in whole or in part.
