The SDA is one single ‘box’ but is fully High Availability. Advances in technology make this possible as you will see in the presentation. The ISIS 7500 approach of two separate servers was appropriate at the time, but potentially gives a lower overall availability because there are more active components that could fail. If you only have time for one point - The main take away is that the backplane is passive – no electronic components to fail, and all other parts are redundant and connected via separate paths.
