1. Social entrepreneurs as extraordinary individuals

People with extraordinary skills and personalities •Media, popular science and traits-research emphasize specific characteristics: Persistence, willingness to take risk, high ambition, high ambiguity tolerance, etc. (e.g. Bornstein, 2007)

•Go a long way to solve a problem

•Often transformative experiences in their biographies (Barendsen, Gardner, 2004) !!

2. Entrepreneurs with a social mission

Focus on what Social Entrepreneurs DO !

Five key characteristics (Dees, 1998, 2003): !

•Pursue opportunities to create impact

•Don’t stop with one innovation by keep on improving their offering

•Not being restricted by existing resources •Stay close to the target group and take responsibility for the outcome

•Following a social mission !!!
