Intriguing and Poetic Events October 19 - 26, 2012 Les Champs magnétiques [Magnetic Fields] Series Friday, October 19 La Sala Rossa – 8 PM - 12$ Flying Words Project Peter Cook / Kenny Lerner Allen Ginsberg said that the Beat Generation’s approach was guided by the desire to make images with words. According to Ginsberg, the Flying Words Project clearly pulls this off. The duo, made up of the Americans Peter Cook and Kenny Lerner, has been successfully performing on the international scene for 25 years. In their first visit to Montreal, these exceptional artists will present a sophisticated and incomparable work on language and the moving body. The duo works in American Sign Language (ASL) and in English. A rare (all too rare) occasion to discover one of the world’s many sign languages and a very singular art form that has emerged from the deaf community. The show is in ASL and in English with French subtitles. The discussion period following the show will also be interpreted from ASL to LSQ. Organized in collaboration with the Société Culturelle Québécoise des Sourds and the Fondation des Sourds du Québec. Saturday, October 20 La Sala Rossa – 5 PM and 7 PM – $10 Kabiin Compagnie ZAL Performance for voyeurs under observation. Each booth provides an intimate and unique glimpse into solitude. An unexpected, complete world. In each booth, 15 spectators can see and hear a story through 15 small windows. The spectators thus live the story from a different point of view. Kabiin takes this experience to extremes by turning the spectator into a voyeur. An invitation to control your racing heart as you kneel and peep through the keyhole. 60 spectators for each showing. Duration: 55 minutes. Director and artistic direction: Mélanie Charest With: Mélanie Charest, Julie Desrosiers, Mathieu Riel, Jez

Tuesday, October 23 La Sala Rossa – 8 PM – $15 Panorama Maryse Poulin From the Greek “pan” (all) and “horama” (what one sees, show). Between heaven and earth, between the cosmos and nature, the horizontal axis meets the vertical axis. The moon observes us, the planets are celestial bodies in motion, the music is spherical, the images animistic and matter is digital. An evening steeped in atmosphere where climates are born of the encounter between different art forms. On the program: repurposed musical instruments, swan songs, painting in motion and exquisite corpses. Sound environment collaborator: Alexandre St-Onge. Co-presented with Tangente. Wednesday, October 24 Cabaret du Mile End – 9 PM – $20 Combat contre la langue de bois, 8th edition Hearing that the Festival Voix d’Amériques was to be transformed into Phénomena, many asked: “What about the Combat?” Of course, we will continue to organize our Combat contre la langue de bois, imitated by many, but matched by none! We would like to give those who have something to say—and the courage to do so—an opportunity to speak up. The Combat is a celebration of audacity and freedom of expression that gathers people who are fed up with rehashed speeches and rewound tapes. The fired up JF Nadeau, a man who does not mince his words, will host the event with an iron fist. Each combatant will have five minutes to fly in the face of the endemic babble… No debate, no rebuttal, nothing but the authentic. And in between an awesome house band to shake up the Cabaret du Mile End, the former Club Soda which still resonates with heartfelt words. With 14 combatants among which Paule Baillargeon, Jean Barbe, Michel Desautels, Yves Desautels, Nicole Lacelle, Étienne Lepage, Jean-François Nadeau, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, Gilles Proulx, Ghislain Picard… and several other high energy names that we did not dare to mention here for fear that the paper would catch fire, but who you can track down on our website! Musicians: Bernard Falaise, Fred Boudreault and Alexis Martin. Wednesday, October 24, La Sala Rossa - 8 PM – $12 Felix Kubin A German, Dadaist, pop provocateur, musician, master of the absurd and iconoclastic performer, Felix Kubin is an awesome showman, whose latest visit to Montréal goes back to 2007. He began composing at the age of 12 with a 4 track tape recorder. At 14, he was writing his own texts and began performing on the punk

and new wave scenes. He has since become one of the most prominent figures of the electronic music scene. He likes to travel between “hi” and “lo” culture, between bars and concert halls, just as much as he likes to change contexts and challenge expectations. Co-presented with the Biennale d’art performatif de Rouyn-Noranda and the artist-run centre L’Écart. Thursday, October 25 La Sala Rossa - 20h – $12 Images et sons dans un salon Daniel Boucher and Catherine Servedio They have created an image database using their everyday lives and their imaginary. These images are projected via a gigantic television screen. In a live presentation, Daniel Boucher and Catherine Servedio present the music that these images inspire them with. There is no trace of an editorial line in this performance. In fact, if there was a message, it may be summed up as follows: life is beautiful. Regardless. Friday, October 26 La Sala Rossa – 9 PM – 15$ Cabaret Désir Dada To melt away hypocrisy, send cynicism adrift and kill apathy, go elsewhere and alter your point of view. Humankind is rising up, evolving in new ways and finally rediscovering the natural environment it had left behind. In an intimate environment, Cabaret Désir Dada propose engagement, a possible step forward, moderation and excess, but also transformation, mutation; these moments of grace where all your desires are chaos. All living species invite you to partake in the biodiversity of their art and urge you to go where you usually don't go. Or only on the rarest occasion. Artistic Director and Host: Claude Poissant With: Fanny Bloom, Violette Chauveau, Robin-Joël Cool, Michel F Coté, Guido Del Fabbro, Francis Ducharme, Benoît Landry, Alexis O'hara, Daniel Parent, Félixe Ross, Manu Roque, Mani Soleymanlou, Guillaume Tremblay and Lucie Vigneault.
