the busy streets or shop up a storm in the markets. Days2-3

KanchanaburiCruise through the canals of Bangkok and see

the magnificent Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, then perhaps

explore the city’s colouful floating markets. Afterwards, it’s off to

Kanchanaburi to visit the infamous Bridge Over the River Kwai

and to take a refreshing dip beneath the seven-tiered waterfall in

Erawan National Park. Day4AyuthayaVisit the ancient temples

and sprawling ruins of Ayuthaya. There’s plenty of time to learn

about one of the richest periods in Siamese history and maybe

even enjoy a fun game of hide-and-seek among the ruins. Day5

adventure. Enjoy breakfast at KOTO, a restaurant helping Hanoi’s

disadvantaged youth. Jump on board a cyclo and take a ride

through the Old Quarter, where vendors sell shirts, watches and

shoes. Then it’s off to an evening water-puppet show, a type of

traditional Vietnamese entertainment that started in rice fields

centuries ago. Days3-4HalongBay/OvernighttrainCruise the

warm waters of Halong Bay with its towering limestone peaks and

stalactite-filled caves. Take a dip in the warm waters of the South

China Sea and, at night, sleep on board beneath a star-filled sky.

Days5-6HueA former imperial capital and important Buddhist

centre, Hue is filled with ancient sites. Discover the Imperial Citadel

and the lovely octagonal Thien Mu Pagoda. Later, explore the

lively Dong Ba Market and search for ‘poem hats’ between the

fruit, vegetable and fish stalls. These hats have shadowy scenes of

Later, swap the bustle of the markets for the tranquility of the

Travel past picturesque rice paddies and verdant mountains to the

Explore the area with a local guide and visit the

former citadel. The palace complex was constructed

in the 18th century and served as an important stop

on the thriving Tibetan-Kathmandu Valley trade
