Individualized interventions Meeting individually with D & F students is

a great use of ELP time. It is helpful to have them reflect on their own

grade before they come to meet with you. Hand out grades and give students a survey

to help them understand their own grade. If possible make a copy or scan the survey so

you both have a copy. You can also have a conference signup sheet

for other students to meet about their grades.

Individualized Grading Interventions

Grading an assignment with a student present is a great way to make sure they get individualized feedback.

If you are reading their essay you can explain why they were marked down as you grade so that the student is guaranteed to hear the feedback.

This can alleviate your need to write excessive feedback on the paper since the student is getting a personalized explanation (and the paper will be graded!)

Targeted Tutoring During ELP or during After School

Tutoring you can have a targeted tutoring session.

Students enjoy using the whiteboards for re-teaching problems.

Re-teach one small portion of a subject, then do a practice problem or question. Have students share their answers with each other. Since it’s a small group you can check work individually.

Small Group Re-teaching Some teachers put students in a

small group. A group leader with a good understanding re-teaches, and other students have to explain the topic back to them.

The next step… Saturday School InterventionsFor PLC’s looking for another level of

intervention, we are beginning to look at Saturday School as an option.

Goal: Re-teach / re-learn / re-test When: Following each Summative Exam Who: Students who earned a D or F on

the exam

All D&F students will receive one of these slips. Parents must sign either way.

They will also be required to fill out a basic review sheet before attending the Saturday School Session.

Saturday School Setup The topics covered on the test will be re-

taught, and students will receive supplemental problems and questions to help them better understand the information.

A new version of the exam will be given. Students will receive up to 75% of the

grade if they show subject mastery. Grading can be at the teacher’s discretion,

some might offer an average of the test scores.

Data Collection Although difficult, it is important to keep data on

your interventions! Some teachers keep a checklist for each student Some teachers just keep a list of interventions as

they happen If you have after school tutoring I can help you

set up a digital sign in so you have a record of all students.

If you can show the before & after grades for students please share it with us so we can include it in the WASC report!

One way to keep track of interventions is a survey like this. You can have students fill out the top, and you can check the boxes throughout the semester as needed.

Using Google Docs you can make an easy survey for students to fill out either in-class or in tutoring.

Google will automatically create a spreadsheet of the data AND make some great graphs so you can interpret the data quickly.
