[email protected] UCLA Theater Internship Program is open to enrolled students from theDepartmentofTheater.Onlyjuniors,seniorsandgraduatestudentsintheTheaterMajororMinorarepermittedtotakethisinternship.This course provides students with an opportunity to gain field experience intheater,film,televisionandentertainmentorganizations.Eachstudent’sinternshipis a variable-time assignment in the profession. Examples of appropriateorganizations are Actors Gang, Center Theater Group, Comedy Central, CreativeArtistAgency,Dreamworks,FOXStudios,theGeffenPlayhouse,LATheatreWorks,Miramax,MTV,Nickelodeon,andSonyPicturesStudio.Studentsmust select anorganization andmakedirect contactwith the internshipcoordinator at theorganization to securean internship. TheTheaterDepartmentmaintainsalistoforganizationsandcontactinformation. Pleasestopbytheofficeat303E.MelnitzHall toperuse thebinder. However, studentsarenot limited totheseorganizations. PleasenotethattheTheaterDepartmentstaffandInternshipCoordinatordonotprovideguidanceinselectinganinternship.Students receive internship credit by enrolling in Theater 195. HowtoEnrollinTheater498TheaterstudentshaveaccesstotheTheateronlineinternshipdatabaseathttp://intranet.tft.ucla.edu/students/theater/.Clickon“Internships”toreceiveaccesstothesyllabusandallrequireddocuments.Determiningthenumberofunits:Creditisassignedbasedonthenumberofhoursworkedeachweekduringtheten-weekinternshiporthetotalnumberofhoursworked.Internshipsmaybetakenand/orrepeatedforamaximumtotaloftwelve(12)units:
• 12hoursperweek(120hourstotal):4units• 18hoursperweek(180hourstotal):6units• 24hoursperweek(240hourstotal):8units• 30hoursperweek(300hourstotal):12units

2. Atwo-pagetypedessaydetailingwhatthestudenthopestogainfromtheinternshipexperience.Answerthefollowingquestionsintheessay:
o Whatdoyouhopetolearnfromthisinternship?Whatdoyouwanttolearnaboutthecompanyorthislineofwork?Inwhatwayswouldyouliketogrowpersonallyandprofessionallyfromthisexperience?
o Whatmeaningfulworkwillyoubeperformingatyourinternship?Whatareyourgoalsandexpectations?
o Giveashortsitedescription.Whatdoesthiscompanydo?
3. Anacceptanceletter(oncompanyletterhead)fromthesponsoringorganizationthatstatesthefollowing:
o Lengthoftheinternship.InternshipdatesmustcoincidewithFall,Winter,SpringorSummerquarters.Enrollinthequarterinwhichtheinternshipends.
o Descriptionofinternshipactivities.o Thespecificareaordepartmentwithintheorganizationwherethe
studentwillwork.o Theweeklyortotalhours.o Thenameofthesitesupervisor.
4. SignedReleaseofLiabilityandIndemnificationAgreement.5. SignedWorker’sCompensationAgreement
Theater498dutiesDuringtheInternship:Oncetheinternshiphasbegun,studentsmustsubmitaonetotwoparagraphtypedweeklyjournalsummarizingtheinternshipactivities.Thejournalsshouldbesubmittedbeginningthefirstweekoftheinternship,regardlessofwhenthequarterbegins.Thesejournalsshouldbeemailedtoyourinternshipadvisor.Thisissubjecttochange.Pleasecontacttheinternshipcoordinator,ShannonMaguire,[email protected]’scontactinformationatthestartofyourinternship.JournalentriesshouldbesubmittedbyWednesdayofeachweekforthepreviousweek’sactivity.Youwillreceiveaconfirmationemailafteryousubmityourfirstjournal.AttheConclusionoftheInternship:Whentheinternshipiscompleted,thestudentmustsubmitdocumentationontheculminationofhis/herwork.Thisdocumentationmayutilizeseveraldifferentformats-writtenreports,designsketches,projectbrochures,videos,etc.Theculminatingprojectmustsummarizethecompleteinternshipexperienceandwhatthestudentlearnedfromit.Theremustbeatleastthreetofivepagesofsummary.Thisessaymustbeturnedinby5pmontheThursdayof10thweek.ThedeadlineforSummerSessionsistheThursdayof6thweek.GradingStructure:60% WeeklyJournals40% FinalEssay
