Far away there in the sunshine
are my highest aspirations. I maynot reach them, but I can look up
and see their beauty, believe in them,
and try to follow where they lead.

ADMINISTRATIONHorizons — the theme of your yearbook looks to the future and
adventures yet to come, while your yearbook itself describes the past and
memories I hope you will treasure. Your yearbook is a "timeslice" of
your activities at Hahnemann and only a small component of what a
lifetime of learning and service can grow to be.
Use this horizon as a foundation to enlarge your awareness ofper-
sons, ideas, and places. This should be the order ofimportance as you
seek to understand how you can contribute to improving the quality of
your own life and the lives of those you will meet. Always remember to
listen and be flexible so that you can adjust to the changes life will
impose.
Couple these attributes with dedication, direction, and determination
and you will experience the joys ofachievement and virtually unlimited
horizons in your personal and professional growth.
Dean Ladman
Mary E. Schlosser, M.S.N.Associate Dean
Aaron J. Ladman, Ph.D.Dean
Dear Graduates:
Standing on the threshold ofyour health care career, new goals will
now challenge you. Put your knowledge into action unafraid to accept
hard work. Face all of life's demands without pettiness. Be big in
thought and always generous in judgement of those you meet along
life's way. Lookfor the best in others as you give the best in you. Aboveall, manifest your loyalty to your patients and employers in word and
deed alike.
With the completion ofthese courses ofstudy, I extend to you sincere
wishes for a future filled with deep satisfaction. Do for others in such a
way that you will require little or no attention directed toward you. Then
you will reap the satisfaction of knowing others were made better for
having crossed your path. Good luck and Godspeed.
Associate Dean Schlosser
Congratulations to the 1984 graduates of the School ofAllied Health
Professions — both to the "new" professionals as well as those "old"
professionals with their newly-aquired Hahnemann degrees and certifi-
cates. As one ofthe newest Hahnemannians, I share the excitement andjoy ofyour moment— this moment— in the camaraderie ofour mutual
professionalism and conjoint goals — that of human services of the
highest order for those who need our skills and talents.
Let there be no doubt — the School of the Allied Health PROFES-SIONS is aptly named. Your success, and that ofyour colleagues, will
rest in part on the professionalism you display: your integrity, your
leadership, your ethics, your commitment to self-education, your peer
expectations, and all your actions.
"This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man."Graduate, you've earned your right to call yourself "professional" . I
have no doubt that you will continue to represent Hahnemann, your
alma mater, in outstanding fashion as you practice your profession.
Godspeed.
Dr. BeljanJohn R. Beljan, M.D.
Provost & Vice President
for Academic Affairs
Inauguration of President B. Brown, M.D.
I have only this first sentence to catch your attention.
You have the rest of your life to practice what you've
learned here at Hahnemann University. What you have
learned here was built upon the base of you as an indi-
vidual — your personal, community, and family back-
ground. What you will practice in the future will also be
based on you as an individual with the support of your
family, friends, and community.
Hahnemann University is proud to have played a role
in your development. We are now part ofyour family;
you are part of ours.
I am certain that the future will be rewarding. The
health care fields and health care professions for which
you have been so ably trained provide one of the best
opportunities to do well and be fulfilled. Do it. Goodluck!

Distinguished Faculty Award
The distinguishedfaculty award is given to a mem-ber ofthefaculty primarilyfor excellence in teaching.
The award also looks at the recipient's other contribu-
tions such as service to the college and other related
activities. The 1983 award was given to Miss Harting
of the Medical Technology program. The students ofthe School ofAllied Health and the staff of Horizons
yearbook would like to congratulate Miss Harting on
receiving this honor.
"To say Miss Harting exemplifies a good teacher would
smack of impertinence. She is a great lady, skilled practition-
er, a dedicated teacher and professional, a friend to all stu-
dents and colleagues, a legend in her own time and one of
Hahnemann's most respected and truely loved family mem-bers."
Associate Dean Schlosser
"It is difficult to annotate the accomplishments and strong
positive influence that Miss Harting has made on the faculty
.
We see the respect she engenders from her students and fel-
low members ofHahnemann and the community . We knowthat through her unselfishness and devotion to her own pro-
fessional growth she has been and will continue to be the ex-
ample that we all will be measured against.'

"Life's a pretty precious and wonderful thing. You can't sit downand let it lap around you . . . you have to plunge into it; you have to

Student Senate
"As president of Student Senate, I have
enjoyed working with the many students, faculty,
and administrative personnel that I have come in
contact with during this past year. The senate
provides students with a chance to interact with
each other and faculty members during their
course at Hahnemann. Aside from providing for
student activities, the senate confronts problems
and also debates new ideas for making student
life better. The Student Senate allows students to
play a role in the planning and growing of this
University."

The Social Committee plans all the parties and social
events in the School of Allied Health, along with the Student
Senate. The planning ofparties involves a lot of hard work
and energy, that always pays off in the end. In a University
such as Hahnemann, with the intensive study programs that
the students must undergo, a good party is a great way to
let off steam. The main function of the committee is to makesure that student unity and school spirit is kept alive.

A yearbook serves as a testimony-a testimony to
the year's events and moods. Events of the
present, that become memories of our future to
be remembered and cherished.
5 it possible to choose one picture, or feeiin
lat will sum up the past year? No one picture
ist won't do, therefore, we must form a collage
l our own minds to reflect the memories and
ielincs that come from our own hearts.

The book has come to an end just like
this year at Hahnemann. Endings are
always sad because we leave behind
happy times and memories. We have a
sense of satisfaction that we have reached
our horizons and accomplished our goals.
What we have learned at Hahnemann will
continue to be with us, as we start our
professional careers. We will continue to
dream and strive for new HORIZONS.

We would like to thank all the people
who made this publication possible. Aspecial thanks to Donna Frabotta,

time and patience. Thank you all!

Follow your dream . . .
Take one step at a time
and don't settle for less
just continue to climb.
Follow your dream . . .
ifyou stumble don't stop
and lose sight ofyour goal
press onto the top.
For only on the top
can we see the whole view
can we see what we've done,
and what we can do,
can we then have the vision
To seek something new . .
.
Press on and follow your dream.
