You will explore the challenges that result from different degrees of integration into the European Union, including:❏ Political, economic, environmental, and societal reasons for current tensions in South Eastern and Eastern Europe.❏ Focus on the interaction and competition between the EU and the Russian Federation.

Take two courses for a total of 7 credits: 1. Integrative Seminar, 4-credit 2. Choose one of the below 3-credit elective course:

● Transition and Development in Southeastern and Eastern Europe● Shattered Dreams in Europe's Troubled Borderlands? Eastern and Southeastern European Cultures and Societies

Around Germany● EU and government representatives of member states● Leaders in multi-national corporations and NGOs● Official advisors on EU issues● Leading academic experts and journalists

Around the EU● Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia (7 days) ● Russia and a Baltic state (9 days)

Course excursions are an extension of participants local course.

Participants will experience first-hand the cultural landscape of multiple EU member state candidates and study in-depth challenges of current and future European integration.
