Why choose this course?If you would like a career in internationalaffairs and politics, then this joint honourscourse is for you. You’ll develop specialistskills in these areas and in conflict
resolution and diplomacy. You’ll have theopportunity to work with someGovernmental and non-Governmentalorganisations as well as internationalinstitutions and charities.
About the courseAre you interested in current affairs andthe contemporary issues and problemsassociated with international relations andglobal development? You’ll study keythemes including the relationship betweenthe state and its citizens, the politics ofdevelopment as reflected in the growingdevelopment gap between rich and poorcountries, and also the idea of socialjustice, human rights, globalisation anddemocratisation.
How you’ll learnYou’ll be taught by lecturers who areactively involved in research andconsultancy covering a wide range ofissues relating to international relationsand development. You will be learning thevery latest theory and be kept up to datewith what is happening globally.
Your careerYou’ll develop specialist skills, such asnegotiation, diplomacy, advocacy andconciliation which will open up manycareer opportunities for you in this field.You could work for internationalinstitutions, aid agencies, developmentorganisations, transnational corporationsor public and voluntary bodies. Previousgraduates are now working for theDepartment for InternationalDevelopment, the United NationsDevelopment Programme, the VoluntaryService Overseas project and teachingEnglish in China as part of a project toimprove education for migrant workers’children.
Additional informationDuring stage two you’ll go on a field visitto a key organisation in the field ofinternational relations, such as the UnitedNations in Geneva or the European UnionParliament in Brussels. During these visitsyou’ll learn about key functions ofinternational political institutions and theirrole in promoting democracy, worldpeace, political stability and developmentaround the world.

Entry requirements: Academic – 260-300 UCAS tariff pointsfrom your International Baccalaureate orequivalent qualification.

Duration: 3 years full time
Course fees: It depends what subject you combineInternational Relations and GlobalDevelopment with. If you combine it witha classroom-based subject, it will cost£9,945 per year*. If you combine it with aresource-intensive subject or a specialistsubject it will cost £10,225 per year*.
