Why study with us? First of all, what amazed me was the environment of study in City College Norwich. I studied for a BA (Hons) in Business Management and I found all the teachers very attentive and friendly. The size of the classes are relatively small, and as an international student I always received all the information I required from the International Student Adviser. The tuition fees are low compared to other universities. It is a great college to study at.

INTERNATIONAL PROSPECTUS 2019 - 20NORWICH: THE CITY OF STORIES

Norwich is a fantastic place to study and one of the most vibrant and attractive cities in Europe. Norwich was recently ranked the 7th ‘Happiest City to Live In’ within the United Kingdom (9NINE Survey, 2017) and is renowned as an outstanding shopping destination, indeed it is regularly voted in the Top Ten Shopping cities in the UK (the Venuescore surveys.) It is also a hotbed for the arts, culture, music, nightlife and tourism. It is also reassuring to know, that Norwich is located in Norfolk, a county with one of the lowest crime rates in the whole of England (Office of National Statistics, 2018).

A MEDIEVAL AND HISTORICAL CITY Norwich is the most complete medieval city in England. Most notably, Norwich has a Norman Cathedral and a 12th Century Castle, as well as an open air market, the largest of its kind in the UK, which has been in its present location since the 11th century.

Norwich is full of magnificent architecture, with over 1500 historical buildings inside its city walls, ranging from Norman and medieval times, through to the Tudor, Georgian and Victorian periods. Although the city’s medieval centre of cobbled streets remains largely intact, there is still space for modern buildings such as the Forum, a stunning piece of contemporary architecture. It's glass front overlooks the colourful six day market and reflects the city in all its diversity.

A CITY OF CULTURE Norwich was the first city in England to be awarded the accolade of UNESCO City of Literature and has always had a strong literary tradition dating from the medieval era. For example, the first known female author published in the English language, the fourteenth century writer Julian of Norwich, lived and worked in the city. To this day, Norwich retains a large number of independent bookshops reflective of this rich literary heritage.

Norwich has a multitude of quirky independent shops, major retailers, two major shopping centres (Castle Mall and INTU Chapelfield) and farmers' market. It also has many museums and galleries covering a wide variety of time periods, themes and genres. During the twilight hours, Norwich has always been a great place for a night out with stylish café bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs. Areas of the city such as Tombland, the Riverside Precinct, St Benedicts Street, Prince of Wales Road and the Norwich Lanes, have numerous entertainment venues, and all offer their own unique environment.

For the artistically minded, there are numerous cinemas, theatres, concerts, exhibitions and festivals in Norwich. Whether you’re into alternative comedy, classical music, top West End musicals or independent films and music, Norwich, with its plethora of arts venues and year long programme of entertainment, will have something for you.

EXPLORE THE COUNTRYSIDE AND COAST When you want to escape the city for a while, the Norfolk countryside and coastline is within easy travelling distance. Coastal towns such as Cromer, Sherringham and Great Yarmouth are short journeys away from Norwich Railway Station. Here you can experience the festive spirit of the British seaside with amusement parks, cafes, restaurants and bars all located on the beachside, particularly during the summer months.

The Norfolk Broads, a large network of rivers and lakes, are located a short distance from Norwich and are largely navigable throughout. They are a renowned boating holiday destination and offer the chance to see much of Norfolk’s diverse wildlife. The charming picturesque towns and villages of the Norfolk countryside are also easily accessible by train, bus or car and are often only a matter of miles away from the city itself.

TRANSPORT LINKS Norwich is in the heart of Norfolk and benefits from easy access to major routes and transport hubs. Norwich Train Station has regular services running to locations across the United Kingdom. Norwich is only a two hour rail journey from London, and an hour from the regional transport hubs of Peterborough and Cambridge, from which the rest of the country is easily accessible. Norwich is also a major centre for the national bus routes which traverse the country.

The city has its own airport, Norwich International Airport, which offers flights to various destinations in the United Kingdom and Europe.

INTERNATIONAL PROSPECTUS 2019 - 20

Why study with us? Choosing to study at City College Norwich was one of the best decisions I ever made, and being offered a place was bliss. Although I had other opportunities, undertaking study in Engineering at CCN has certainly changed my life for the best. The course delivery was outstanding and all the tutors were very supportive and friendly. Being an international student who has travelled 6500 miles away from home to start a career was challenging, but CCN have made me feel comfortable since the very start of my course.
