PRESS FREEDOM VIOLATIONS STATISTICS
METHODOLOGY
Each victim of press freedom abuse is tabulated separately, if targeted individually, with each case counting as a separate entry. Violations will vary in size and scope of afflictive seriousness, but will not be categorised as such. Specific cases in which collective victimisation takes place (e.g. a media outlet being censored or an ethnic class of journalists being refused press accreditation or a group of reporters in a car coming under fire) will be counted as single press freedom violations, although the gravity of such instances should not be underestimated. The statistics are based on all the relevant information made available and accessible to IPI by the time of publication.
