Meetings:
General meeting
- Last Thursday of
the Month.
Workshops - Every
Thursday
Changes will be
notified on the
club’s FaceBook
page.
Apologies for the confusion that appeared
evident around the February meeting however be
assured we are back on our normal schedule
again.
The following topics are on the agenda:
• 2019 club display - discussion around the
timing of this event
• Trip to Oamaru (ideally on the last
Sunday of the month to coincide with
their get together.
Gary and Lester are proposing to bring
NZ Models up to Dunedin again in late May. My
recommendation would be Sunday 19th. The
following Sunday is the Oamaru Branch meeting
and this gives them the opportunity to come
down. Gary is also talking about bring some of the
Invercargill guys up and (naturally) the Central
Otago group are welcome to attend if they wish
to do so. The suggestion has been made that
some of our members might also like to conduct a
demo or two.
Meantime I will get in touch with Brent to
check the availability of the Band Rooms. Failing
this Bruce can secure the NEV Bowling Club.

landing Airfix will be releasing their 1/144 scale
Saturn V. Modellers should note that this kit contains
new sprues correcting the undersize lunar module
housing. This correct then translates to the remaining
sections of the model. The new sprue is pictured on
the left. Going by the box art the error in the paint
scheme also appears to have been addressed.

ZD851
AJ Amanda Jane ZD 851 was originally on charge with IX Squadron,
but was borrowed by No. 20 Squadron before being
despatched, along with eight crews and eight other
ALARM capable aircraft, to Tabuk Air Base in
Saudi Arabia. The units first mission took place on
16 January 1991.
By early February, the unit’s stock of ALARMs had
been almost exhausted. The final mission where
ALARMs were launched was flown late in the
afternoon of 13 February, when ZD748 and
ZD851 supported a TIALD / LGB strike on Al
Taqaddum Air Base in Iraq. On 26 February a
further mission involving ZD851 in an ALARM role
was aborted due to the weather. In total, the
Squadron flew 24 ALARM missions, involving 52
sorties and the firing of 121 missiles.
ZD851 flew 11 successful ALARM missions and
launched 27 missiles. In addition to these, one
JP233 mission, 11 free-fall bombing missions and 12
JGB missions were flown.
The aircraft model is configured for a typical LGB
mission, carrying three 1,000lb LGBs, a Sky
Shadow ECM pod, a BOZ 107 chaff / flare
dispenser pod, two 350 gallon fuel tanks and two
AIM 9-L Sidewinder missiles.
