RECOGNITION OF ADDITIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE QUALIFICATIONSWe understand the difficulties some of you are facing in trying to take an English language test in your country, with many testing centres still closed. In recognition of this, UCLan has added a further three tests on to its list of approved English language tests accepted for most courses (excluding MBBS). This means that we now also accept:

• Duolingo

• TOEFL At Home Edition

• Password

These are in addition to IELTS, Pearson PTE, TOEFL, and some High School qualifications – please visit your country page for further details. You can see the full list on our UCLan webpages.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORTThe University has introduced an English Language Support Service to help assist with the language needs of International and European University students. There are a range of opportunities to improve both academic and general English with taught year-long modules starting in September, and regular one-to-one tutorials and workshops throughout the year.

As well as this, the UCLan TESOL team (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) offers free General English classes supported by trainee teachers under supervision, which are available to members of the public as well as students.

PRE-SESSIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMMESThe Pre-Sessional English Language programme focuses on helping students to develop the academic and English language skills necessary to succeed on their future courses.

Owing to the current situation with regard to COVID-19, the unpredictable circumstances in which we all find ourselves, and ensuring the health and safety of our students and colleagues, UCLan has decided to offer both the 29 June (10 week) and 27 July (6 week) entry points to the Pre-Sessional English Language Programme as online programmes.

The full information and details for these programmes, including cost and how to apply, can be found on the Pre-Sessional Information Webpages.

Please email International Admissions to request any additional information or apply here.

UNIVERSITY-WIDE EFFORT TO HELP FIGHT CORONAVIRUSStudent doctors and nurses from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) are answering the call to help the country’s fight against coronavirus. UCLan students and staff are heading to the frontline while specialist and personal protective equipment is being designed for the NHS.

Around 30 final year medical students and more than 300 final year nursing students will be working on the frontline during these unprecedented times of a global pandemic after the Government and their regulatory bodies appealed for help.

UCLan has also been contacted about offering facilities and expertise for training current NHS staff and those who have offered to return after retirement to provide critical care support. If required, the University can offer this service on all three campus sites in Preston, Burnley and Westlakes.

UCLan Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Baldwin said: “This is an unprecedented and hugely challenging time for our NHS and extraordinary measures are needed to fight this deadly virus. I know our final year medicine and nursing students have received the very best training possible, this is now their opportunity to shine and support the healthcare system at a time of great need. I’m immensely proud of every one of them, along with our staff who have offered their clinical or lab expertise or technical support.”
