PROBLEM DISCRIPTION

In this project a diesel engine puppet valve is evaluated by varying material and welding process to join seat and stem.

Effect of coating material will be taken in to account in analysis work.

METHODOLOGY

There are Different methodologies used by researchers to obtain a good design and economic performance of the valves by considering different valves failure criteria. Dif-ferent types of failure and their causes are discussed in the following articles.

Failure due to fatigue:

Transient structural and thermal analysis will be con-ducted to determine structural and thermal defects in-dividually, coupled field and fatigue analysis will be con-ducted to determine stress, deflection, strain, life, fatigue sensitivity and damage/error in combination both condi-

tions at 5000 cycles as a single cycle. Above analysis will be done by varying materials, welds process and by add-ing coatings on surface.

Fatigue cycles 1e7 *5000 cycles as a single cycle.

INTRODUCTION TO IC ENGINE VALVE

Function of Exhaust valve: exhaust valve works as doors for the ports, these ports are used to escape burnt gases from the cylinder through ports to atmosphere.

VALVE DIMENSIONS:

Abstract

The present project work is forced on different failure modes at the joint of valve seating and stem of internal combustion engine valves and improvement of joint by involving new welding process.

In this two materials and three types of weld process are involved to suggest optimum material and weld process, and also evaluation will be done to suggest best coating material.

Failures due to fatigue, high temperature effects, and Failures due to impact load that depends on load and time.

Couple –field, fatigue and transient analysis will be done on valves and valve with coating to determine structural, fa-tigue and thermal behavior to find out results in working condition.

Best weld process will be suggested by conducting analysis on valve with joint with the change in weld process.

Conclusion

The present project work is to analyze internal combus-tion diesel engine exhaust valves at different welding and coating conditions and also evaluation is done by varying materials.

Analysis is done to evaluate heat flux value for different materials and weld process and also coupled field analy-sis is conducted with above conditions to evaluate struc-tural behavior while applying combinational loads of ther-mal and pressure.

Initially literature survey and data collection was done to understand the methodology, selection of latest materi-als, latest weld technology and coatings to restrict the temperature effect on valve.

In the next stage modeling and assembly of valve seat and stem is prepared to conduct further work in ansys

Transient thermal analysis is conducted on exhaust valve using nickel chrome steel, titanium and inconcal with the time history process at 5000 cycles, as per the analysis results inconcal is having total heat flux of 16.009 w/mm2 ,coupled field analysis is conducted with above conditions to evaluate stress and deformation values at combina-tional load conditions as per the analysis results stress value is low for titanium ,while considering ultimate yield strength of deformation and strain values inconcal is showing good characteristics. So better to use inconcal.

Transient thermal and coupled field analysis is done on exhaust value using inconcal material with the varia-tion of weld process(fusion welding, EB welding and FSW welding) as per the analysis results friction steel welding is the best process to join value seat and stem.

Transient thermal analysis is done on exhaust value by varying coating materials chromium (present material) and ceramic (partially stabilized zerconium) as per the analysis results ceramic is completely restricting the tem-perature transfer through the valve.

to reduce the thermal effect on valve better to use incon-cal with ceramic coating ,and to improve the thermal and structural abilities better to use frictional stir welding.
