Zeta News

Zeta sisters,

November is the month in which we celebrate all that we are thankful

for. Some things for which I am thankful include friends who are near

and far-flung. You will often hear me say I’m grateful for every day that

the good Lord gives me, because every day is a second chance.

I am most thankful for professionals who work alongside me, and help

serve students with their hearts. I am thankful for counselors like Tracy

Cagle, who served her students and her profession, and continues to

serve her profession as an advocate and a voice for counselors at the

Legislature. Recently, Tracy was recognized at the 61st Annual Tennes-

see Counseling Association conference for her service and passion.

While we tend to be more intentional about our gratitude during the

month of November, my prayer is that we will carry that attitude of

gratitude with us throughout the rest of the year.

If you make a dinner reservation,

and cannot attend, you will need to

pay for the meal. Due to a tight

budget, we need to pay for missed

meals within a week of missing a

meeting.

Members, please return the callers'

calls, even if you are not making a

reservation. A returned call lets the

caller know that the message was re-

ceived.

WANTED: NEW MEMBERS

I challenge each member to

bring a prospective member to our

November meeting. Martha

Hi Saralee,

Thank you for the invitation. I enjoyed being with Zeta last

night! Great fellowship and food, informative program and

induction of new member...outstanding meeting.

Thanks for the picture. Ann Gann

Induction Ceremony

Tami Smith (in the foreground) was inducted into

Delta Kappa Gamma at Zeta's October meeting. Also

pictured are Communications Chair Connie Silvey,

President Terry Sharp, and First Vice-president Sara-

lee Peccolo-Taylor.

Dear Saralee , I was sorry, too. I had so looked forward

to being with some of my favorite people again. I am

some better, but had to get off the prednisone, I couldn't

sleep; was up all night Monday night and wasn't even

sleepy yesterday. I had my first massage yesterday and I

am sure it helped. Must have several more before I will

feel the results. The doctor said it usually takes about

three weeks to get over this type of problem. Please con-

vey my regrets to Zeta Chapter and hopefully I will be

invited back sometime soon. Sisterly love to all. Vera Jo

On October 22, 2018, Zeta Chapter celebrated Cancer Awareness Month at Lulu's Tea Room.

Zeta members: Saralee Peccolo-Taylor, Maggie Miller, Alice Carson, Hannah Roy, Rosemary Calvert,

Shelley Walker, Connie Silvey, and Kaye Williams volunteered at Zoo Knoxville's Boo at the Zoo to sign

children up for the Imagination Library.

Spotlight on an Educator - Tracy de Vate

November is the last month to bring items for Mrs. Heller

Mrs. Heller’s Wish List

1. Venus fly trap (including pot and soil)

2. Class set of headphones (I currently have 15 students) – I’ve purchased many pairs from the Dollar Tree, but they do not last.

Over the ear headphones would probably last longer especially since some of the students complain that the in ear headphones are

too large for their ears.

3. Storage containers:

a. I would love to have the fabric square/rectangle containers to hold the books in my library.

b. I need several containers that are the length and width of a piece of paper, 2 inches deep, and have a lid.

3. Items for a Calm Down/Cozy Corner – I have an area in my room with carpet tiles and a timer. I also have a salt rock that

changes color and a plug in with the scent of lavender nearby. I’d like to have a couple of small pillows and whatever else you can

think of that would work well in that space. I have a few students who could use a place to go cool down from time to time.

4 Books! – I do have some books, but would LOVE more books! Especially multiple copies of the same chapter book to do book

clubs with my reading groups.

5. Anything you can think of! I know you are all retired teachers so you may know of something that you just couldn’t live without

that might benefit me too. I am open to everything and anything!

Dear Ms. Williams:

Thank you, first to the Zeta membership of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for its thoughtful mission of promoting the

professional and personal growth of women educators by providing needed classroom materials.

Secondary, we are very thankful to Ms Tracy Van de Vate for choosing one of our teachers at West View Elementary to be the re-

cipient of her “Spotlight on an Educator” award. I know that these donated materials will absolutely be a help to Ms. Heller as she

works with her students this year.

Again, thank you for supporting education and particularly one of our own.

Sincerely, Bob

When Zeta members choose a member to receive the Spotlight on an Educator award, we send letters to the superintendent, prin-

cipal, and grade-level/subject chair, informing them about the award. Until recently, we had received no response. This semester,

however, we received the following from Knox County Superintendent Bob Thomas:
