i just returned from the lush, green foothills of the fujian province in China. it is a magical time of year, as it is jasmine season. the intoxicating fragrance of this delicate flower scents the countryside.

this is the only time of year that we scent our Jasmine Green tea. the process is elegant in its simplicity. Basket upon basket of these elusive, white petals are picked in the early evening, before the blossoms open in the cool of the night. in tiny wooden houses on the outskirts of the tea gardens, these flowers are laid out on screens and are stacked in alternating layers with the freshly plucked tea leaves. as the blossoms open, the fragrance is captured by the tea leaves. we cupped the tea before i headed home and it was truly inspiring.

on the flight home, i realized that the scenting of jasmine tea is the perfect metaphor for what tea forté is creating around the world. My biggest challenge has been to gracefully infuse two distinct traditions, the european tea culture and the asian tea ceremony. the outcome is the unique contemporary tea experience. tea forté pulls together the Zen simplicity of the asian experience, the warmth of the european experience, and tosses in the festive, relaxed entertaining spirit of america. tea forté’s highly visual aesthetic and innovative blends are developing the new global tea experience.
