Why In News- NSA Ajit Doval is expected to commission India’s first satellite and ballistic missile tracking ship Dhruv from Visakhapatnam.

Built by Hindustan Shipyard in collaboration with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO). The 10,000-tonne ship, which is part of a classified project, will be at the heart of India’s future anti-ballistic missile capability.

Why In News- Union Env. Minister, Bhupendra Yadav, has launched a portal called “PRANA”.

PRANA Portal will be used to track the progress of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). This portal was launched on the occasion of ‘International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies(7 Sep)’ in non-attainment cities (NAC). Non-attainment cities are those cities that failed to meet the National air quality standards in a 5 year period.

PRANA stands for Portal for Regulation of Air-pollution in Non-Attainment cities. Environment ministry and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) seeks to achieve 20-30 % reduction in particulate matter (PM10 as well as PM2.5) concentrations in India by 2024.

Why In News- World's largest plant designed to suck carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air and turning it into rock started commenced its operation in Iceland.

The plan is named as Orca or orka meaning energy. It has been developed by Swiss startup Climeworks AG and Icelandic carbon storage firm Carbfix. It consists of 4 units, each made up of 2 metal boxes, similar in appearance to the containers used for maritime transport. It can suck out up to 4,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Why In News- Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all the mandated Rabi crops.

MSP was increased for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2022-23 with the aim of realigning MSPs in favour of pulses, oilseeds, and coarse cereals. The government hiked the MSP for wheat by Rs. 40 to Rs. 2,015 per quintal & for mustard seed by Rs. 400 to Rs. 5,050/quintal (Highest).

Mr. Modi also hailed the Cabinet's decision to approve the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme worth Rs 10,683 crore for the textiles sector. Currently, it fixes MSPs for 23 crops grown in both Kharif and Rabi seasons. In budget it was announced to fix the MSPs at the level of at least 1.5 times of the all-India weighted average cost of production.

Why In News- Central government has approved the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of worth Rs 10,683 crore for the textiles sector.

Scheme will help in creating direct additional employment of more than 7.5 lakh people and several supporting activities. As a part of incentives approved for textiles sector, the payout will be spread over a period of 5 years.

It will also result in a fresh investment of more than Rs.19,000 crore, and a cumulative turnover of over Rs.3 lakh crore, over a period of five years. This PLI scheme will impact and benefit special states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Odisha.

Why In News- India’s tallest air purification tower has been inaugurated in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The tower has been installed at the initiative of the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) at Transport Chowk, Sector 26, by Pious Air Pvt Limited. This is the highest air purifier tower of the country and covers an area of around a 500-metre radius and is 24-metre-high. The purification tower will clean 3.88 crore cubic ft of air from the surrounding environment.

Note: Arvind Kejriwal, on August 23, inaugurated the first smog tower at Connaught Place.
