Incentives for Young ResearchersThe International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology (ICONSAT-2012) will be held during January 20-24, 2012 at Hyderabad, India. The conference is being organized by the International Advanced Research Center for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India is the official sponsor of this conference, with the above event being a regular biennial feature under its Nano Mission initiative. ICONSAT has been conducted every alternate year since 2003, primarily motivated by the desire to promote scientific exchange between experts in India and abroad in the area of nanoscience and technology. ICONSAT 2012 is the fifth in the above series of international conferences, and comes at a time when nanoscience and technology is on the upswing and the varied Nano Mission initiatives are beginning to bear fruit.
The Nano Mission launched by DST in May 2007 has been singularly responsible for catalyzing a dramatic increase in nano-based R&D activities in national laboratories and academic institutions in India. The Nano Mission’s capacity building efforts and other initiatives have already had a significant effect on India’s “nano” canvas in terms of infrastructure creation, greater reach of R&D support, spurt in human resource development activities and encouragement of industry-institute linked projects. Implementation of industry-centric and application-driven projects in the area of nanoscience and technology is also being encouraged through specific programs under the Nano Mission.
ICONSAT-2012 will provide an opportunity for scientists, technologists, students and entrepreneurs to interact on the current developments and future trends in the multidisciplinary area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Based on the success of previous events, significant participation from experts across the world is also expected, thus providing for an ideal opportunity to forge mutually rewarding collaborative linkages.
The technical sessions will cover the following areas of nano science and technology:
• Theoretical and computational studies • Advances in synthesis and characterization techniques• Energy materials• Biotechnology and Biomedical applications• CNTs and Graphene• Magnetics and Electronics, thin films, NEMS/MEMS, lithography• Catalysis• Structural, surface engineering and tribological applications• Nano toxicology
Interested participants may submit abstract(s), not exceeding 200 words, based on their original research work. Authors may indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation, although the final selection will be based on a review by a committee of experts. Authors of selected abstracts may submit a full manuscript for possible inclusion in a volume devoted to conference proceedings to be published in an international ISI journal. The manuscripts will be peer reviewed for final selection.
A technical exhibition will also be organized at the conference venue during ICONSAT 2012 to provide an opportunity for various companies to display their products to a wide spectrum of potential user groups directly working in the field of nanoscience and technology. Interested companies may contact the organizers for booking stalls at this exhibition.
Being an important business center and software hub, as well as a popular tourist spot, the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad provide a wide range of hotel options to suit all budgets. The organizers, too, will make all efforts to block rooms for accommodation of ICONSAT 2012 participants at negotiated rates in some of these hotels and guest houses in convenient proximity of the Conference venue. However, the allotment will be on a first-cum-first-served basis upon completion of all registration formalities. A list of hotels and tariff details will also be available on request.
The conference will be held at the Hotel Taj Krishna in Hyderabad. The venue is conveniently located and easily accessible from the airport, as well as railway stations in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The registration fees for the participants are given below:
Registration fees Till December 15, 2011 After December 15, 2011Foreign participants USD 500 USD 600
Foreign students USD 200 USD 250
Indian participants Rs. 6000 Rs. 7500
ICONSAT 2012 organizers are making a special effort to encourage and facilitate participation of students pursuing their Masters’ and Doctoral degrees in areas allied to nanoscience and nanotechnology. About 200 slots are being reserved for this category of participants. Students and research scholars may apply for these slots by sending abstracts highlighting their research accomplishments, through their research supervisor or Head of the Department, to the Conference Convener. Selected students will be able to participate in ICONSAT 2012 absolutely free, with their Registration Fee being waived, free accommodation being provided during the event and to-and-fro travel costs by train (AC III tier) between their place of stay and Hyderabad also to be reimbursed.
