BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (HONOURS)Integrating key business functions with the use and understanding of today’s latest technologies, this program will provide you with the skills necessary for employment in a competitive market.

In your third year you may choose one of four majors – Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management. Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE®) is offered as a technical elective. The Networking Lab has been purposely built to support the Cisco Networking Academic curriculum, to teach concepts ranging from fundamental networking skills up to enterprise-level network engineering.

FACULTy OF ENERgy SySTEMS AND NUCLEAR SCIENCEwww.nuclear.uoit.ca

Engineers and scientists who possess knowledge of the safe, efficient generation and use of energy sources, including nuclear, wind, solar, hydro, fossil fuels, geothermal and emerging technologies have significant employment opportunities in a variety of fields. The programs have been designed in consultation with key industry representatives in the fields of energy and radiation. Graduates will possess the skills necessary to apply the theory learned in the classroom to the real needs of industry.

BACHELOR OF ENgINEERINg (HONOURS) IN NUCLEAR ENgINEERINgYou will be introduced to all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, from mining to plant operation to waste management. The curriculum includes courses in nuclear plant chemistry, nuclear materials and heat transport, steam generation systems, nuclear physics, and plant design. Not only will you examine the current operational fleet of reactors, you will apply your growing knowledge to the future generation of reactors (e.g. supercritical water reactors, fast reactors and fusion reactors).

This program is structured to integrate laboratory courses, field trips and research projects with core course material in order to provide the maximum experience within this exciting, challenging and essential field.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONOURS) IN HEALTH PHySICS AND RADIATION SCIENCEEnergy supply, medicine, agriculture, national security, manufacturing and resource-based industries are all examples of where the uses of radioactive materials or radiation-generating machines are an essential part of their operations. Radiation is also used to study materials and matter on the atomic scale. Recently radiation science has witnessed huge advances in techniques for material science using advanced radiation sources.

The curriculum is a combination of fundamental radiation science, technological methods and applications preparing graduates to lead and succeed in their future careers.

kinesiology This major is directed toward the scientific understanding of human movement including the behavioural, biomechanical, physiological and psychological aspects. The practice of kinesiology also requires understanding the role and safe application of exercise for rehabilitation and health improvement.

alternative Dispute resolution Alternative dispute resolution typically includes arbitration, mediation, early neutral evaluation, and conciliation and sentencing circles. It also offers a less-expensive and faster alternative to settling disputes and disagreements. You will learn about the increasing importance placed on alternative ways of solving disputes outside the courtroom.

huMan rights law One of the major components of Canadian and international law is human rights. This specialization will teach you the complex relationship between the law, rights and the state, while being exposed to Canadian and international human rights discourse and instruments.

inForMation law Changing technology has brought about new challenges to the legal and social control systems in modern society. You will examine a variety of emerging socio-legal issues that have resulted from rapid technological development, including law and technology, intellectual property, communication law, cybercrime and privacy law.

2014 - 2015 INTERNATIONAL gENERAL ADMISSION gUIDELINES The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year to year. UOIT reserves the right to determine acceptable academic credentials, grades and prerequisite courses used for admission and awards.

AMERICAN HIgH SCHOOL CURRICULUM Applicants from the United States must achieve high school graduation with a competitive average. All applicants must present an SAT or ACT score; a minimum combined SAT score of 1800 with a minimum combined score of 1200 in Math and Critical Reading or an ACT score of 27 is recommended. Students not meeting this requirement are still encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.

Please note: UOIT's SAT code is 4192; and UOIT's ACT code is 5265.

BRITISH-PATTERNED EDUCATION Applicants from British-patterned education programs must achieve the General Certificate of Education (GCE), including a minimum of two Advanced Level courses. No grade can be below a C. Preference will be given to students with prerequisites at the A level. Transfer credit may be granted for Advanced Level courses with a final grade of an equivalent C or better, depending on the program (maximum 18 credit hours). Courses studied in the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) will be considered on an individual basis.

BRITISH COLUMBIA CURRICULUMHigh school diploma with English 12 and three additional examinable Grade 12 courses including faculty prerequisites are required. Completion of provincial exams is not required.

COMMONWEALTH OF THE CARIBBEAN CURRICULUM (Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos)

Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) or General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) results including one of the following three:

• Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) results (minimum six units completed)

• Minimum one year completed at a recognized post-secondary institution

• Two Advanced (A) Level courses

Please note: CSEC and CAPE results must be sent directly from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). Two college courses must be taken to equal one prerequisite.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) Full diploma candidates who achieve passes in six subjects with at least three at the Higher Level, and who accumulate a grade total of 24 with no score lower than 4 are eligible for admission to first year. Students must hold the appropriate prerequisite subjects at the Higher Level. English may be held at either Higher or Standard Level. Applicants offering prerequisites at Standard Level will be given individual consideration.

ONTARIO SECONDARy SCHOOL CURRICULUM Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), with a combination of the six best 4U or 4M level courses including prerequisites. ENG4U is a prerequisite for all programs.

ADvANCE STANDINgApplicants who have completed Advanced Placement (AP) examinations or International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations or General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) courses may be granted up to a maximum of 18 credit hours (equivalent to three full courses or six one-semester courses) toward their UOIT degree.

Minimum subject scores of 4 in the AP examinations and 5 in the IB examinations and grade of C or better in Advanced Level (A Level) courses are required for advance standing; minimum subject scores may vary by subject.

If you are from a country where English is not the first language of instruction, you must demonstrate English proficiency to be considered for admission. You can demonstrate proficiency by one of the following:

1. Successfully completing at least three years of formal, full-time study in English. Or

2. Achieving the required proficiency on one of the English tests listed below:

• TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): minimum score of 83 to 87 overall (may vary by program); minimum section requirements of listening: 20; reading: 20; speaking: 19; and writing: 20; or Paper-based test: 560.

• IELTS score of 6.5 with no sub-score less than 6; (Nursing and Education require a score of 7).

• CAEL score of 70 with no sub-score below 60.• MELAB minimum score of 85.

If you have met all the admission requirements for UOIT with the exception of the English language proficiency requirement, you have the opportunity to enrol in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program (www.uoit.ca/eap). PREPARE yOUR APPLICATION AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

1. CHOOSE A PROgRAM Review the Programs at a glance table found on page 12 or www.uoit.ca/programsataglance.

2. WHEN TO APPLy We accept applications on an ongoing basis, which means the sooner your application and documents are received, the sooner we are able to process. The application deadline for equal consideration to high demand programs for the September intake is February 3, 2014. For application deadlines for intakes in other semesters, please visit www.uoit.ca/internationalrequirements. You should start the process as early as possible to ensure you are considered for your top choice program and to allow enough time to obtain your study permit.

3. SEND yOUR APPLICATION 1. Submit your application online to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) at www.ouac.on.ca.

OUAC offers a common application form for all universities in Ontario:

• If you are an international student studying outside of Canada, complete the 105F Application form.

• If you are an international student currently studying at a high school in Ontario, complete the 101 Application form. Further instructions can be obtained from your high school guidance office.

• OUAC acknowledgement: Once your application has been processed, OUAC will send you an acknowledgement email and your OUAC identification number.

• UOIT application acknowledgement: Once your application has been processed through OUAC, your application will be sent to UOIT. We will send you your official UOIT student identification number. Please include this number on all communications with UOIT.

2. Submit your supplemental documents by mail (courier or post) to UOIT registrar’s office (International Admissions).

• Submit official transcripts for all high school and post-secondary institutions that you have attended. These documents must be sent directly from the issuing institution in a sealed, institutional envelope. If official documents cannot be obtained, a notarized copy (in English) of original documentation may be accepted in special cases only. Students currently enrolled in courses should submit midterm or predicted results from their school.

• Documents must be submitted in both the original language and translated into English by a certified translator. Documents in a sealed, institutional envelope can either be sent directly from each institution or presented in person at the Registrar’s office. In special cases, notarized copies may be accepted. Documents must be received no later than May 1 for September admission.

• Students seeking transfer of credit from previous post-secondary studies must be eligible for admission and accept their offer of admission to UOIT for the transfer credit process to begin. You must provide the Registrar’s office with institutionally prepared course syllabi and an official transcript of completed courses. The course syllabi will indicate what textbook was used, credit hours, course duration, topics and sub-topics of each course. Documents must be in English or translated into English (certified translation). Photocopies of documents will not be accepted for transfer credit evaluation. Please refer to www.uoit.ca/transfer for more information.

1. A study permit to study in Canada. You must apply for this permit outside of Canada. Apply at least six months before you intend to begin your studies. • Completed study permit application (IMM 1294). • Valid passport (this should be valid for at least four years).

Please note: A study permit will not be issued past the date of expiry on a passport.

gLOBAL LEADERSHIP AWARD International secondary school students entering an undergraduate program at UOIT on a study permit and who are currently studying outside of Canada are eligible for UOIT’s Global Leadership Award (GLA). The GLA scholarship is one of UOIT’s most prestigious entrance awards. Valued at $45,920 ($11,480 annually), the GLA recognizes international secondary school applicants with strong academic and leadership abilities. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the GLA.

Applications for this scholarship are due by March 31, 2014. The application form is available at www.uoit.ca/entrancescholarships.

EMPLOyMENT OPPORTUNITIES There are options for you to engage in challenging work opportunities to help with expenses and gain valuable skills and experience, including:

• Co-operative education (co-op) and internships, depending on your program

• Employment on-campus • Post-graduation work permit program

UOIT offers on-campus employment positions for students called work-study positions. These positions offer part-time employment during the academic year and full-time employment during summer breaks.

In addition, international students studying full-time at a Canadian university can earn extra income to help pay for their education costs by working off campus after six months of full-time study. Providing eligibility criteria are met, you may receive an off-campus work permit allowing you to work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and full-time hours during school breaks and holidays.

After graduating from UOIT with a four-year degree, you are eligible to stay and work in Canada for three years in the general labour market (please see www.uoit.ca/immigrationinfo for more information).
