There are two main accommodation options that we can arrange for you; Home-stay or Hostel placement. Students who choose to go into a flat must make their own arrangements. Wintec charges a non-refundable accommodation placement fee of $175 to students that we place in accommodation. To ensure a good match with a Home-stay family, it is important that you complete the attached Application Form and return it to the International Office two weeks prior to your arrival. HOME-STAY ACCOMMODATION The International Office at Wintec can arrange a Home-stay for you from our list of carefully selected New Zealand families. Home-stay is a great way of experiencing New Zealand life, making friends and learning English.

Many students remain in regular contact with their Home-stay family after staying with them and some families have visited their past students in their home countries. Living with a Home-stay family allows you to concentrate solely

on your studies and includes three meals a day (breakfast, a packed lunch if required and dinner) as well as laundry facilities.

The cost for Home-stay is NZ$210 per week (as of January 2010)

Home-stay placements are made for a minimum of 4 weeks and will require 4 weeks advance payment that should be paid with your tuition fees to Wintec.

Most of our families are located 10-25 minutes by bus from

Wintec. Please note that most New Zealand homes have pets. If you do

not wish to live in a home-stay with pets, you need to indicate this on the Application Form

After the first month, a minimum of two weeks’ notice of your

intention to leave must be given to the Host family.

HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION There are various hostels in Hamilton; however space in them is limited. Hostels provide you with your own room and shared bathroom

and laundry facilities. There are both catered and self-catering hostels. The cost for self-catering hostels start from NZ$110 for a single

room (with additional linen charge and key bond). You may be required in some hostels to provide your own

bedding, linen, kitchen and eating utensils. YWCA – (minimum stay 4 weeks)

The YWCA is located within walking distance of Wintec City Campus, the Hospital, Central Business District and supermarkets. The Hostel provides accommodation for permanent residents and backpackers. Residents are required to provide their own: kitchen & eating utensils, blankets, linen, pillows, towels and food.

Costs $130 per week for Single Room, minimum 4 week stay $145 per week for Double Room $115/person per week Twin Share Bond payment of $260 Linen can be hired for $20 for 2 months

BROOKFIELD STUDENT ACCOMMODATION – (minimum stay 8 weeks) Brookfield Student Hostel is set in five acres of beautiful trees and gardens. It is located close to central city cafes, bars and restaurants. Costs: $110 per week Single Room, minimum 4 week stay $140 per week Ensuite Single Room $140 per week Double Room (1 person) $160 per week Double Room (2 people) $170 per week Twin Room (2 people) Bond payment of $440 $55 Administration Fee (non-refundable)

FLATTING Sharing a flat requires tolerance, patience and the ability to talk to other flatmates about problems. Setting up a flat can be very costly:

A bond is required to the value of two or four weeks rent Rent is usually paid two weeks in advance Flats are usually unfurnished so you have to purchase

your own furniture, fridge, washing machine, bed, linen, cutlery and cooking utensils.

A deposit of approximately $250 has to be paid for he electricity to be switched on

Approximately $80-$100 for telephone connection You will need to allow for ‘extras’, for example any food

that other flatmates do not want to pay for, travel costs and other expenses. If a person moves out of the flat, the remaining flatmates have to pay more as the full rent has to be paid to the landlord.

You will need to sign up a tenancy agreement with the landlord

In some cases, you may need to mow your own lawns and clean the home

Costs

The costs are approximately $75-$95 per week for a room in a flat. Rent has to be paid over the holidays. You will need to pay for your own food, electricity, telephone and Sky TV.

TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION We can arrange temporary accommodation for you if: You are planning to move into a flat shortly after your arrival. You arrive in New Zealand needing Accommodation but

without having returned your Accommodation Form to inform us of your requirements.

This accommodation is likely to be at a Backpacker’s hostel at approximately $30 per night (excluding meals).

SHUTTLE SERVICE / AIRPORT TRANSFER Wintec can arrange transport from the Auckland International Airport or Hamilton Airport directly to your accommodation if required. Costs:

$85 from Auckland International Airport to your Accommodation in Hamilton.

$25-$35 from Hamilton Airport to your Accommodation in Hamilton.

The drive from Auckland Airport to your Hamilton accommodation would normally take about 1-1/2 hours, depending on the traffic. Please follow these guidelines when you arrive in the Auckland International Airport:

Once you clear Customs you should walk through to the public waiting area in the main foyer. Immediately to the left is an area designated “Pre-chartered Shuttle and Group Tours” where a driver from our shuttle services will be there to meet you.

Under NO circumstances should you leave the Airport building.

Please be aware that if you are approached at the airport by people selling insurance or offering a taxi, they are NOT authorised by us.

I understand that an accommodation placement will be made for me. For this, there is an administration fee of NZ$175, which is non-refundable. If Home-stay accommodation is my first choice, I understand that an advance payment of NZ$840 ($210 per week) must be paid directly to Wintec for the first four weeks of my stay.
