1. Dr. Reshu Madan AOI, June 2017 Smoking a Contraindication for Implants???.... Not Really…
There is a plethora of literature that stress that smoking has a negative effect on implant survival. But,
recent studies have suggested smoking to be a significant risk factor and not a contraindication. This
paper presents a review on the current verdict of placing implants in smokers.

2. Dr. Shefali Phogat AOI June 2017 Clinical and Radiographic Examination of Endoscopically Controlled Indirect Sinus Lift
It was the aim of the present study to quantify the gain in height of implant sites by endoscopically
controlled osteotome sinus floor elevations (ECOSFE) with simultaneous implant placement and to
report the number of sinus membrane perforation and to measure total time taken in endoscopically
controlled indirect sinus lift. From May 2010 to June 2011, 10 endoscopically controlled sinus lift
with an osteotome technique were done. As augmentation material, platelet rich fibrin and
autogenous bone was used; 20 implants were placed. The residual height of the alveolar crest in the
posterior maxilla was 5.625 mm on average. The implant lengths ranged from 10 to 13mm (mean
implant length 10.65mm). Elevation of the sinus floor with an osteotome had to be supported by
conventional sinus floor elevation instruments after a mean elevation of 5.205 mm to prevent
perforation of the sinus membrane .Endoscopic control revealed no perforation and total time taken
during procedure was using around half the time taken during direct sinus lift. With the ECOSFE,
perforations of the sinus membrane can be visualized. Although this technique is less invasive than
the lateral window technique, it cannot be recommended as a standard procedure in the posterior
maxilla because of the large amount of additional equipment needed and the technically demanding
procedure.

governmental health services for providing basic dental services and the
faculty dental clinics work as referral center for advanced care. In the past
collaborations with Jhajjar, Rewari, Nuh & Tauru in the form of Private
Public Partnership (PPP) have helped us establish new collaborations with
CMO, Gurugram for working in the same manner at 4 new locations,

DEPARTMENT OF ORTHODONTICS
The Department of
Orthodontics is extensively
involved in cleft lip and
palate treatment. All age
groups of cleft patients report
to the department. Various
treatment modalities are used
ranging from pre-surgical
maxillary expansion to dental
decompenstion.
2. Various kinds of
orthognathic cases are being
treated by the department in
collaboration with the
. The department
lacks a digital
record keeping
system. The
plaster models of
PG patients’
occupy a large
amount of space
and are easily
breakable. If the
department gets a
digital scanner for
models, then all
the plaster models
Department of Oral and
Maxillofacial surgery. The
cases already treated are
Class III, Class II, vertical
dysplasia and asymmetry.
3. A high number of fixed
orthodontic self started cases
as well as transferred cases
are being treated by post-
graduate students. The PGs
are encouraged to take up
cases with different
malocclusions and use a
different treatment modality
in all the cases.
4. Department adopts the
latest advancements in
orthodontic techniques. PGs
are encouraged to learn about
them in various workshops
and then use them in their
patients. Such latest topics
are given to the PGs as thesis
dissertation.
. Multidisciplinary case
discussion
In addition to discussing and
treating complex orthodontic
cases, the department is
involved extensively in
discussing and taking up
cases that require
multidisciplinary treatment.
Therefore ortho-endo, ortho-
surgery and ortho-perio are
some of the interdisciplinary
will be replaced by
the digital ones.
Maintenance of
records will
become much
easier.
2. There is no 3D
software in the
department for
planning treatment
for surgical cases.
In orthognathic
cases, such 3D
software helps
patients to
visualize changes
in their faces after
treatment. This
will help in patient
motivation.
3. CBCT is a 3-
Dimensional
Imaging
Technique which
is required to
diagnose complex
cases like
impacted canine
and cleft cases.
Due to lack of this
imaging technique
in the department
most patients have
to be referred
outside to get the
CBCT done. This
approaches that are followed.
causes a lot of
inconvenience to
the patient.
