Internal Measurement
Internal Measuring and RequirementsInternal measuring of bores is more demanding than external measurement ofworkpieces. Not only the tight tolerances given for the measuring job must berespected, but also the measuring components that have a direct influence onthe uncertainty of measurement must be designed in such a way that they canenter into the bore to be checked.
Advantage of 3-Line contact
TESA IMICRO, TRIOMATIC, TRI-O-BOR and ETALON INTALOMETER are self-centring and self-aligninginternal measuring instruments that make bore measurement reliableindependently of the sensitivity of the user.
The 3 measuringbolts spaced 120 °apart provide opti-mum self-centring.
Line contact of the 3 measuring bolts allowsthe instrument to align itself parallel to thecontact surfaces.

2-point contactdoes not allow theinstrument to alignitself in relation tothe bore axis.
2-point contact measuring instruments arenot self-centring. To make bore measure-ment easier, auxiliary means will addition-ally be used.
A single measuring instrument can replacehundreds of plug gauges
Unlike plug gauges that check onlyone toleranced size, a single instru-ment can measure many diameters.Depending on the model that is beingused, through bores and blind boresas well as short centring shoulderscan be measured, reliably.
Establishing form errors
Form errors are established by meas-urements made at several points onthe bore.
Measuring instruments with 3-line contact determine run-out errors in a triangular way.
Measuring instruments with 2-pointcontact measure medium-size diam-eters only. They do not allow the userto differentiate diameters measuredat various points.
