    INTRODU TION TO WORKSHOP

    Workshop is a place

where variouscomponent are repairedand manufactured . Inthe U.T.C workshop thevarious parts like

engine, gearbox, wheelsystem, differential, battery etc. Arerepaired or tested, forthe good and long

    running of the vehicle.

    TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

    Transmission system have following parts:

    Clutch

    Gear BoxPropeller Shaft

    Differential

    CLUTCH

Clutch is the mechanism interposed betweenengine and the gear box which enables power totransmit at the WILL to the gear box throughfriction drive. When clutch pedal is pressed the

clutch is disengaged and thus no motion and powerflow from engine to gear box.

The fly wheel is attached to the clutch plates in

the clutch box with the engine.

Single plate dry friction type of clutch is used in

    TATA buses.

    Gear Box

A gearbox is a protective casing for a system ofgears which is used to transmit torque to thepropeller shaft at various speeds. It consist of twoshafts:

    1) Primary shaft

    2) Secondary shaft

PROPELLER SHAFTPropeller shaft is attached after the gear box and

    consist of universal joint.

It is attached with the differential at 90 degree angleand converts torque gear box to the differential.

    DIFFERENTIAL

Differential is a mechanism used in rear wheelaxel to reduce the speed of inner wheel andincrease speed of outer wheel while taking turn.

The number of teeth in Leyland buses are (376)

    BRAKE

A brake is a device used either to bring to abody which is in motion or to hold a body instate of rest or of uniform motion against theaction of external force or couple.

    TYPES OF BRAKES

Foundationbrakes are the most common air-brake systems found in UTCbuses .

    1) Frictional brakes

    2) Pumping brakes

    3) Electromagnetic brakes

    WORKING OF AIR BRAKINGSYSTEM

  • 8/10/2019 intern at utc.pptx

    16/22

Air compressor: Pumps the air into storage tanks tobe used in the brake system

Foot valve brake pedal): When depressed, air isreleased from the reservoir tanks

Air reservoir tanks: Hold compressed or pressurizedair to be used by the braking system

Master cylinder: The master cylinderis a control

device that converts non-hydraulicpressure(commonly from a driver's foot)into hydraulic pressure.

    AIR DRYER

A device that extractsmoisture from the air.

    Shops that use

compressors may have touse air dryers to keep

    shop air free frommoisture

    BRAKE BOOSTER

    The Boosters Function is

to give more BrakingPower with minimumpressure on the Brake

pedal.it is located betweenbrake pedal and mastercylinder

    NEED OF BRAKINGSYSTEM

It must stop the vehicle with smallest possibledistance.

It must strong enough to sustain sudden

braking force. It must operate with least effort by the driver.

Braking lining should have longer life.

In our industrial training, we wereintroduced to industrial environment. We learned discipline and cooperationduring training & we felt good when

we came in contact with engineers &workers. Most importantly we hadlearn the process of doing work in bigwork shop with complete knowledge of

transmission system & braking systemwhich will be useful for us when everwe go to any industry or work shop asan employee.
