2 Method of operation and use
The intermediate position module belongs tothe intermediate position set of pneumaticslide unit type SLG-... . This also consists of:
– cushioning support type SLG-D-...,
– fastening rail type SLG-S-... and
– intermediate position module type SLG-Z-... .
The stop lever 2 of the intermediate positionmodule swivels in and out when the pneumatic connections are pressurized. When itswivels out, the slide of a linear drive (e.g.slide unit SLG-...) knocks against the stop onthe stop lever and is therefore in an intermediate position.
A magnet is fastened to the internal doublepiston of the intermediate position module. The position of the piston and thereby theposition of the stop lever (swivelled in or out)can be scanned by means of proximityswitches in the groove 3 of the intermediateposition module.
The intermediate position module has beendesigned for cushioning mass forces in a position between the end positions of lineardrives (e.g. in conjunction with the intermediate position sets with a slide unit typeSLG-...). Within the permitted loading limits, the intermediate position module also functions as a stop.

3 Conditions of use
Please noteIncorrect handling can lead to malfunctioning.
Make sure that the requirements in this chapter are always observed. The product will then function correctly and safely.
Compare the maximum values in these operating instructions with your actualapplication (e.g. pressures, impact forces, impact energy, torques, temperatures).
The product can only be operated in accordance with the relevant safety guidelines if the maximum loading limits are observed.
Make sure there is a supply of correctlyprepared compressed air.
Please observe the regulations applicableto the place of use and comply withnational and local regulations.
 Remove the packing.
The packaging is intended for recycling(except for oiled paper which must bedisposed of ).
Take into account the prevailing ambientconditions.
Please operate the SLG-Z-... in a cleanenvironment. If dirt is not removed, the lever may onlyswivel with difficulty.
Slowly pressurize the complete system. To do this use start-up valve type HEL-... .
Use the product in its original state. Unauthorized modification is not permitted.

4 Fitting
Fitting mechanical components
Please noteThe stop will be damaged if masses strikeit at an angle.
Make sure that the cushioning energyis always applied vertically, if possible inthe centre of the stop plate 6.
Screw a connector (see “Accessories”)into the connector thread 1.
Fasten the support holder type SLG-D-...as follows:
1. Push cushioning elements (shock absorbers or rubber buffers) into thecushioning support.
When retrofitting an existing slide unittype SLG-... , you can use the shock absorbers of the slide unit. Lift these outwith a screwdriver and push them into thecushioning support (see Fig. 9).

Both end stops (A) of the SLG-... mustthen be removed and fitted again at thesame height in the groove (B) of thefastening rail.
2. Fasten the cushioning support with centring pins and the fastening screw supplied to the slide of the linear drive (e.g.type SLG-...).
Make sure that the alignment is correct. Iffitted correctly, the cushioning supportwill be below the edge of the slide of theSLG-... (see Fig. 11).
Fasten the fastening rail type SLG-S-... asfollows:
Place the fastening rail type SLG-S-... onthe profiled edge (C), position it withdowel pins (D) and tighten with screws inall the fastening holes. The supportingsurface must be level (see operating instructions for type SLG-...).
The tightening torques are shown in thetable below:

Fasten the intermediate position module type SLG-Z-... as follows:
1. Push the sliding block into the groove (E)of the fastening rail and screw the twofastening screws through the intermediate position module into the sliding block. It should then still be possible to shift theintermediate position module type SLG-Z-... .
2. Push the slide of the pressureless lineardrive (e.g. slide unit type SLG-...) by handinto the intermediate position.
3. Align the intermediate position module inthe direction of the stop and place it in thetoothed profile of the fastening rail (stoppossible from left and from right). Theposition of the stop to the mid-positioncan then be adjusted by ± 0.75 mm.
The minimum permitted distance X1 forswivelling the stop lever and for the pneumatic connections X2 must be observedhere (see Fig. 17).

Fitting pneumatic components
 Connect the pneumatic tubing 1.
Fitting electric components
Using proximity switches:
Place the proximity switches in the groove3 of the intermediate position module(Fig. 19).
Fasten the proximity switches in the endpositions.
There must be a minimum distance L of 10 mm from ferromagnetic parts.
Fitting control components
Please noteThe stop lever can destroy the shock absorber when it moves back.
Make sure that the slide of the linear drive is outside the swivel range whenthe stop lever moves in (e.g. by means of a control delay circuit). The swivel-in speed of the stop lever exceeds the slide speed of the slide unittype SLG-... .

5 Commissioning
Please noteMalfunctioning can occur if excessiveloads are applied to the stop lever.
Make sure that the following pointsare always observed:– The alignment of the stop in
accordance with Fig. 21.– The stop lever must have sufficient
space to swivel in and out (per-mitted distances see chapter “Fitting mechanical components”).
– The stop lever is moved out at the correct time.
– The slide of the linear drive must beoutside the swivel range of the stoplever.
Please noteBe careful not to squash your fingerswhen the stop lever moves in.
Make sure that:– nobody can place his/her hand in
the positioning range of the stop lever.
– there are no objects in the position-ing range of the stop lever.

1. Swing the stop lever of the SLG-Z-... in by hand.
2. Push the slide of the linear drive by hand into the end position from whichmovement is to be made to the intermediate position.
3. Pressurize the intermediate position module type SLG-Z-... as follows:
– At first simultaneous pressurization ofboth sides. In this way the stop leverwill move very slightly to an equilibrium point.
– Then exhaust the cylinder chamber forthe extended end position (A in Fig.23). The stop lever will then be pressedinto the retracted end position.
4. Pressurize the linear drive (e.g. slide unit SLG-...) such that the end positionapproached under point 2 is maintained.
5. Start a test run in accordance with the operating instructions for the lineardrive at low frequency and at low impact speed.
6. Accelerate the work load in steps until the operating speed is reached.
Please refer to your application for these speeds.
The slide of the linear drive must not strike hard against the intermediate position module type SLG-Z-... .
Fig. 23

7. Check during the test run to see if thefollowing points need to be modified:
– The swivel-in time of the stop lever(unrestricted the stop lever will strikein the mid-position the slide of theSLG-...).
– Position of the proximity switches– Adjusting the stop lever.
The stop lever must be locked only onthe side which does not face the plate.
The following setting ranges are possible:
Type SLG-Z-8-... SLG-Z-12-... SLG-Z-18-...
Distance Amin 2.5 mm 3.7 mm
Distance Amax 4.2 mm 5.4 mm
Tightening torque 2,9 Nm 5,9 Nm
Fig. 25
Modifications may only be undertaken when the slide is at a stand.
8. Conclude the test run.
6 Operation
Using the intermediate position module with a rubber buffer.
Take into account the fact that the end position will change after long periodsof operation due to the continuous deformation of the rubber buffer.
With diagonal or vertical fitting of the module.
Use the cushioning variant with shock absorber type YSRG-... .

7 Care and maintenance
If the intermediate position module or other parts of the set are dirty, cleanit/them with a soft cloth.
Permitted cleaning agents are:
– soap suds (max. 60 °C)– all non-abrasive agents.
8 Dismantling and repairs
Dismantling
Exhaust the complete system and the module.
If required:
Return the SLG-Z-... to our repair service for overhaul.
