In January 2015, Lavery Automotive Sales and Service began searching for ways to improve the customer experience as part of its newly renovated showroom. Traditionally, dealership employees engaged hundreds of customers each week through phone calls, emails and Facebook posts. While the company’s social media accounts were established early on, they were not actively promoted in the dealership.

However, with a new showroom came a new initiative: make changes to provide a more interactive and engaging customer experience in an environment typically focused on sales. Lindsay Lavery, who manages digital content for the dealership, was first introduced to the idea of a live social media feed in a local coffee shop.

“When I initially learned about the capability for social media feeds, I thought it would be a great way to encourage our customers and staff to engage with the dealership,” said Lavery.

After presenting the idea to sales management, the dealership began looking into options to enhance the showroom. Ultimately, a comprehensive audit of the facility resulted in the initial installation of three digital signage displays to communicate dealership branded content, GM content and a welcome screen.

The dealership worked with SOAR technology experts to evaluate and customize a solution. SOAR offers a turnkey solution that includes onsite assessments; consultative services; hardware and software acquisition, installation and commissioning; content creation and management; training and support; ongoing service and program evaluation.

A comprehensive audit of the facility resulted in the initial installation of two digital signage displays with custom branded surrounds to promote dealership specific and GM content, as well as a welcome screen designed to greet valued customers. The proposed digital strategy included recommendations on the specific locations, colors and branding of the display products, as well as customization of the digital signage software to meet Lavery’s objectives.

“SOAR’s system makes the customer experience unique by providing an instant connection with the dealership. We want people who do business with us to feel like they’ve become part of our family, not that they’re just a customer,” said Todd Bollman, sales and leasing consultant at Lavery.

“After they purchase their car, we take their picture, and they are instantly posted on the live Facebook feed. Then, when customers come back to the dealership for service they are able to see the photo again on the digital displays.”

The success of the display installation convinced the dealership to subsequently install a full video wall to further promote customer engagement and provide the entertainment factor it was looking for.

Phase two also included adding live social media feeds to the displays to show Lavery accounts and weekly specials.

Since the installation, customer response has been extremely positive. The dealership has seen an increase in online check-ins and followers, plus an improved environment for the customer.

“A lot of my customers now follow me on Twitter and Facebook,” said Todd. “That’s what we want to do – build a relationship with our customers. The SOAR solution has helped us maintain that relationship.”

Due to the success of the installation, the dealership is exploring the potenial of additional screens in the service area and elsewhere in the dealership.
