Susan Munro is a partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP based in the firmʼs Beijing office. Ms. Munro has advised financial institutions, multinational companies and investment funds on China-related business and investment matters for more than 15 years.

Ms. Munro was educated in England and Hong Kong. After graduating in Chinese, she pursued post-graduate studies at Fudan University in Shanghai as a British Council Scholar and is fluent in Putonghua (Mandarin). She trained at the Inns of Court School of Law, London, and was called to the Bar of England & Wales and to the Bar of the Hong Kong SAR, where she practiced as a barrister in the Hong Kong courts. She is admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales and is licensed by the PRC Ministry of Justice as a Registered Foreign Lawyer.

She regularly assists clients with China market entry and exit strategies, mergers and acquisitions and strategic investments. Ms. Munro also has deep experience of the Chinese labor and employment environment and also has extensive experience advising on protection of intellectual property in China and enforcement of IPR. In addition, Ms. Munro has conducted numerous China-related Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and SEC investigations in China and throughout South East Asia and has been active in Hong Kong and China-related arbitrations for several years.

Richard is a recognised leader in commercial dispute resolution in the UAE and has practised contentious business law in the UAE for most of his career. His areas of specialisation are in the litigation and arbitration fields, particularly with reference to maritime, trade and insurance law in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East area.

Prior to working at Hadef, Richard trained with Clifford Chance in London and Dubai, later joining another UAE law firm as a partner. He graduated from the University of Warwick (LLB) and the College of Law, Guildford (United Kingdom).

Richard is a member of the Law Society and a Practicing Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, and also a member of the International Bar Association and World Jurist Association, He is currently the Vice-Chair of the BA Maritime Committee and a member of the ICC FraudNet network for the UAE.

Mariko Nakagawa is a partner in Rodyk & Davidson LLP's Corporate Practice Group and is the key contact person of the firmʼs Japan Desk.

Mariko graduated with an LLB from Chuo University in 1994 and an LLM from Chuo University Graduate School in 1996. She further pursued a Masterʼs degree in law at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in Australia. She graduated in 2004 and was subsequently admitted as a legal practitioner in New South Wales, Australia. In the same year, she commenced her legal practice as a foreign lawyer in Singapore.

Marikoʼs areas of practice encompass a broad spectrum ranging from general corporate and commercial law, corporate finance, employment, international trade, cross border M&As, dispute resolution and intellectual property. Mariko also has experience in foreign investment matters in the region, especially in Vietnam. She resided in Ho Chi Minh City from 2011 to 2012 and assisted Japanese companies in their outbound

investments in Vietnam. This includes advising on the regulatory and licensing requirements for foreign investors, corporate structure, joint venture agreements, cross border trade, securities and finance, employment, real estate, and share purchases and acquisitions.

In addition, Mariko regularly contributes papers in Japanese to the local Japanese publications and speaks at the seminars for Japanese expatriates in Singapore.

James is qualified to practise law in New Zealand and NSW, Australia. He earned is BA, LLB, MA (Hons), and LLM (Hons) degrees from the University of Auckland. As an Associate Director of Asia-Pacific at the College of Law Australia and New Zealand, his work focuses on the post-admission legal education and training for lawyers in the Asia-Pacific region.

James is also an experienced finance and securities lawyer, and was an IPBA Scholar at the 23rd IPBA Conference in Seoul.
