INTER-DISCIPLINARY PROJECT

THEME: International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development

CLASS VII

Inter-disciplinary Project allows the student to learn by making connections between ideas and

concepts across different disciplinary boundaries. Students learning in this way are able to apply the

knowledge gained in one discipline to another different discipline as a way to deepen the learning

experience. One of the major benefits of an interdisciplinary project is that the learners use and develop

their critical thinking skills as they begin to consolidate learning by synthesising ideas from many

perspectives. This approach is sure to foster a love for life-long learning, ignite a spark of enthusiasm

and cater to diverse learner interests.

In 2019 at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, 2021 was declared the International Year of

Creative Economy for Sustainable Development.

The creative economy has no single definition. It is an evolving concept which builds on the interplay

between human creativity and ideas and intellectual property, knowledge and technology. Essentially,

it is the knowledge-based economic activities upon which the ‘creative industries’ are based.

The creative industries – which include advertising, architecture, arts and crafts, design, fashion, film,

video, photography, music, performing arts, publishing, research & development, software, computer

games, electronic publishing, and TV/radio – are the building blocks of the creative economy. Today,

the creative industries are among the most dynamic sectors in the world economy, providing new

opportunities for developing countries to leapfrog into emerging high-growth areas of the world

economy.

Since, life skill education is an important life force in the evolution of the creative industries, we believe

that our learners must be trained at a young age as capable job creators, rather than job seekers, which

is the global need of the future.

The multitude of activities is designed to create a powerful learning experience and prioritize

integrative learning, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. This summer, the most

awaited Art Integrated Interdisciplinary Project is designed in such a way so as to ignite a

passion for discovery and experimentation in the learners, while the utmost care has been taken

to ensure a safe and healthy learning experience for our most treasured learners.

Stay healthy, stay safe!

Interdisciplinary project of 2021 has been designed to keep students engaged in fruitful

activities wherein no task requires intense research or needs material to be bought.

Please take good care of you and your family. In these unprecedented times, health and family

are of greatest importance. Let us pray and hope for a time of healing and envision a disease

free world once again.

May there be Well-Being for all.

May there be Peace for all.

Part A

Task 1: Schools are the perfect venues to enhance the understanding and bonding between the states

there by strengthening unity and integrity of India among students by initiating activities that allow

students to read up extensively on the cultural traditions of different state. Record a favourite folktale

of your culture appreciating the cultural heritage of the state that you belong to in the form of a digital

comic strip. (Lesson: Ashes that made Trees Bloom)

You can use the following website to make your digital comic strip:

https://www.smilebox.com/maker/comic-maker/

Task 2: Sports is a major part of our culture and a key economic driver in cities nationwide. Indians

are rich in devising some of the most interesting games be it indoors or outdoors like Kho Kho, Kabaddi,

etc. Research about indigenous sports of India. Create a PPT of any one such sport, its origin, its rules

and how it is played and how it can be made popular among the masses. Include pictures in your PPT.

(Lesson: The Story of Cricket)

Task 3: Exports are a valuable part of any countries business. By exporting made in country products

almost every country earns a lot. India too is one of those countries that has been exporting many

products and raw materials to other countries to earn billions of dollars. Create a digital

infographic/digital brochure listing out the major items that India exports including vaccines to the

countries all over the world. (Lesson: Invention of Vita Wonk) Templates for Digital Brochures can be found in template gallery of Google Docs.

Task 4: Forests cover almost a third of the Earth’s surface. They’re home to a huge variety of

plants and animals, provide people all over the world with food, fuel, medicine and more. But

perhaps most important, forests provide us with oxygen and ensure that the Earth’s temperature

is livable. What can we do to return the favor? Create a digital storyboard depicting the role

of young kids in preserving forests. (Lesson: Trees)

You can use the following website to make your digital storyboard:

Part B

Part C

Creative economy is the knowledge-based economic activities upon which the ‘creative

industries’ are based for sustainable development, like advertisements, music, architecture,

designs, tourism, resources etc.

It is summer vacation time again, a time to relax as well as fruitfully occupy yourself and keep

your energies well directed. So that is why we have planned the following activities to keep

you positively engaged. The class will be divided into groups comprising 5 members each on

the basic of roll numbers i.e., 1-5,6 -10, etc (8 groups per class)

Please note that the task 1 to task 4 can be done on A4 size sheet or digitally according to your

convenience.

Page 5: INTER-DISCIPLINARY PROJECT THEME: International Year …

Task 1: Choose any product of two different companies and observe their advertisements from

newspapers (Paste those cut-outs also on A4 sheet). Compare any 3-4 numerical factors printed

on the packet/box of the product of both the companies and note down which company had an

innovative and creative advertisement. Also, which company’s product would you prefer to

buy and why. List the reasons on A4 size sheets.

Task 2: As we all know that the tourism boots the revenue of the economy, so choose any five

countries having tourism income more than India and any five countries having tourism income

less than India using the data given in the link below.

https://www.atlasbig.com/en-us/countries-tourism-income

(a) Arrange all the data selected in the ascending order

(b) Take the percentage GDP of the respective selected countries from the data given in the

above link and convert each of them into simplest fractional form.

(c) Convert the tourism income given in dollars ($) of all the countries you have chosen

into Indian currency using the currency converter link given below.

https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/

Task 3: OTT (over the top) is a media service that provides streaming of videos like TV shows

and movies via apps or websites. Such platforms have been usually used by us during the

lockdown for entertainment purposes. Given below is a table (by Quartz India) which

showcases the survey conducted by OTT platform over every 100 people in India during 2020.

Part D

The creative economy is one of the world’s most rapidly growing sectors, contributing to 3%

of the global GDP. Creativity is also a renewable, sustainable and limitless resource that we

can find anywhere around the world. As we face climate crisis and the Covid pandemic, its

potential to drive a human-centric, inclusive development has never been more relevant.

Creativity is the industry of tomorrow.

Task 1: Scrap book

Task-5 (Experiential Learning)

We use plastics in virtually every shape and form in our daily lives. It carries our drinks, holds

our shampoos, and keeps our veggies fresh. Plastic makes our lives incredibly convenient,

disposable, and easy, but most people rarely think about the effects it has on the environment.

Unlike other materials, it never really goes away. Plastic does break down, but in a landfill it

takes up to four hundred years. It breaks into microscopic pieces of plastic that are non-

biodegradable in nature. From there, plastic fragments most often find their way into the

oceans. Ocean animals are continuously ingesting small bits of residual plastic, which in turn

Page 8: INTER-DISCIPLINARY PROJECT THEME: International Year …

end up in our dishes. But it’s not just the end of a plastic’s life cycle we need to worry about.

When plastic is produced, it’s made from toxic materials such as benzene and vinyl

hydrochloride. These chemicals are known to cause cancer, and the manufacturing byproducts

contaminate our air and soil.

It may be impossible to escape the use of plastic completely, but you can help by recycling it

for at least two reasons:

Recycling takes 88% less energy than making plastic from raw materials while helping

reducing fossil fuel consumption and thus plays a great role in sustainable development.

Diverting discarded plastics from the refuse stream and turning them into new goods

keeps these persistent materials out of landfills and the natural environment.

Taking ideas from the link provided below make a small video of two minutes on any three

ways by which you can creatively make any three reusable items of your choice from the plastic

items available at home and thus recycling them.
