The FBIs national security mission is to lead and coordinate intelligenceefforts that drive actions to protect the United States. Their goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the threats
and penetrate national and transnational networks that have a desireand capability to harm us. Such networks include: terroristorganizations, foreign intelligence services, those that seek to proliferateweapons of mass destruction, and criminal enterprises.
In order to be successful, the FBI must understand the threat, continueto integrate our intelligence and law enforcement capabilities in everyFBI operational program, and continue to expand our contribution to theIntelligence Community knowledge base.
Because national security and criminal threats are often intertwined, theFBIs ability to integrate intelligence and investigations makes usuniquely situated to address our nations threats and vulnerabilities.
