NEWSLETTER #3 EDITION - 2018 INTEGRITY Establishment of KAD Medan On April 25, 2018, Indonesia Business Links (IBL) assisted Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi / KPK) for the establishment of Regional Advocating Committee (KAD) of North Sumatra Province. The establishment of KAD Medan was preceded by the establishment of Focus Group Discussion together with private sector, facilitated by GIZ. This Focus Group Discussion, was aimed to encourage every businessmen to talk about every important issues that related with the implementation of ethical business. It is later revealed that Goods and Services Sector still holds high corruption risk level, with the involvement of bribery and gratification inside. KAD was established in order to implement good business integrity in Indonesia. In this event, IBL also received another opportunity to present SOLUSI to public. IBL believes that integrity is a fundamental principle that should be implemented on doing business to create prosperity for all. Business Ethics or Integrity is one of main reason for the establishment of IBL. Since the beginning, the organization has been doing many programs and activities to promote ethical business practices, as well as anti-corruption/bribery, and provide assistance needed by private sector to build the capacity on implementing them. INTEGRITY

Establishment of KAD Medan

On April 25, 2018, Indonesia Business Links (IBL) assisted Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi / KPK) for the establishment of Regional Advocating Committee (KAD) of North Sumatra Province. The establishment of KAD Medan was preceded by the establishment of Focus Group Discussion together with private sector, facilitated by GIZ.

This Focus Group Discussion, was aimed to encourage every businessmen to talk about every important issues that related with the implementation of ethical business. EMPOWER YOUTH FOR WORK

Linked and Match with Companies in Indramayu

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) visited several companies who become partners of schools that being assisted by IBL, on May 23 and 26, 2018. This Linked and Match aimed not only to establish good relationship with these companies, but also as an effort to determine what set of skills that mostly needed by companies nowadays.

Indonesia Business Links (IBL) with several organisations, such as Aliansi Desa Sejahtera (ADS) and AKVO, are involving in Empower Youth for Work Program (EYW) in Indonesia. The project aims to reduce poverty in rural coastal areas that are prone to the impact of climate change, by empowering youth (especially young women) to secure viable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

It is one of IBL missions to build the capacity of business stakeholders on doing ethical and responsible business practices in Indonesia. Since the last 5 years ago, IBL has been focusing on building the capacity of our youth since they will be our future leaders in business or other sectors. Programs and activities have been developed to prepare and empower youth for work, as employees (employability initiative) as well as business owners (entrepreneurship initiative).

IBL has been working with several organizations such as International Youth Foundation, Youth Business International, ILO, Oxfam, Plan International and others and with corporation or corporate foundation such as Citi Foundation, Caterpillar Foundation, Accenture, and others as well as with government agencies such as BAPPENAS, Kemenaker, Kemendikbud, and several district and municipal government.

The meeting was conducted to several companies, namely PT. AHM Cirebon, PT Karunia Mitra Makmur Purwakarta, and Pringsewu Group. From the discussion, it is known that company’s need of soft skills performance is highly needed.

On that basis, these companies are interested in cooperating with IBL to organize soft skills training, especially for youths in coastal area. In addition, Linked and Match meeting also open another opportunities for cooperation in providing information for job vacancies and technical skills training, mainly in providing teaching staff.

Trainer Learning Session

On May 3, 2018, IBL gathered 1st and 2nd Batch of Soft Skills Trainer for a sharing session in Sekolah Alam Indramayu.

This sharing session between trainers, mainly discussed about their experience as a trainer. Trainer from 1st Batch, which represented by Ms. Yunita from SMK Hasanudin, shared their experience to the less experienced 2nd batch, about general overview of soft skills training, what will they face as a trainer, and how to deal with those issues. 2nd Batch trainers also had their review session of every training material.

Another objective of this session was the creation of Training Plan, a series of Soft Skills training for future activities created by each of the IBL’s partnered school. By using this training plan, each school could manage their own soft skills training program schedule. This training plan will be implemented within 3 months, from August – October.

Hearing with Local Governments

In order to understand the involvement of local government for employability and entrepreneurship in community, and how to increase that involvement, Indonesia Business Links (IBL) held a hearing session with Local government.

This hearing session, which held in May 7, 2018, involve Disnaker and Disperindag. The discussion with Disnaker, mainly highlight their involvement in the development of human resources competency and their hard skill capabilities, through Balai Latihan Kerja (BLK). Disnaker admitted that they still face challenges in organizing soft skills training for the community. Here, Disnaker suggests that IBL becomes the one helping to organize soft skills training in addtion to the hard skills training provided to BLK’s participants

Another upholding discussion was organized with Disperindag. This discussion explores Disperindag’s programmatic initiatives for entrepreneurship in Indramayu. Using Kelompok Usaha Bersama (KUB), Disperindag organize entrepreneurship mentoring. They have organized 3 months training for new workers, where within those 3 months, they will be channeled to several industries. They suggest that IBL programs should aim for more specific, district level.

SKILLED YOUTH

Group Mentoring

Skilled Youth 2nd Phase held another Mentoring sessions at Karawang, May 25, 2018. This mentoring discussed about participant’s business progress. In addition, this session also informed them about video production event called ‘Cerita Perubahan”, an event where each participant is encouraged to share their story about their experience and how Skilled Youth program affect their life.

Citi Indonesia, through its initiative known as Citi Peka (Peduli dan Berkarya) which covers a wide range of community activities, has been collaborating with Indonesia Business Links (IBL), a non-profit organization which promotes the concept of good corporate citizenship, in an effort to tackle unemployment in Indonesia through a Skilled Youth program since June 2015. This Skilled Youth program is one that seeks to develop and empower human resources of exceptional quality who are ready to take the plunge into the work environment, either as an employees or entrepreneurs.

“Cerita Perubahan” allows every participant to create video about their life. Hence, “Cerita Perubahan” session mainly focus in taught participants about important elements of video making, which is Storyline Writing, a process of developing idea into a script that will be used as a guideline for making their video.

The session was closed with break their Ramadan fast, followed with dinner, while discussing about writing the storyline for their videos.

Ex-Post Survey

In order to gather data of Skilled Youth participants, IBL held Ex-Post Survey session for each of schools that participated in Skilled Youth program. This surveys held in three different days for 5 schools

First ex-post survey was conducted at Bebek Gongs Restaurant, on May 20, 2018. The participants of this event were SMK MM2100 and SMKN 1 Cikarang Barat. Second ex-post survey conducted at Raja Sunda Restaurant, Bekasi, on May 23, 2018. Participants were SMKN 2 Bekasi, SMK Al Muhtadin, and SMKN 1 Bekasi. Last of ex-post survey was held at Resto Mang Kabayan, May 25, 2018, with SMK Bina Karya 1 and Bina Karya 2 as respondents.

Main purpose of this event is to analyze every progress that every participant has achieved, such as their employment status and business condition. It also helped IBL to check the success rate of employment and entrepreneurship of this program.

Financial Literacy and Creative Vlog Session

Financial Literacy and Creative Vlog Session event was held in South Quarter, May 11, 2018. This event aimed to educate Skilled Youth participants to maintain and organize their finance, in addition with how to create creative vlog.

In the first session, participants were taught about how to organize their finance, such as analyzing Income and Expense post, and how to calculate their savings. This session was led by Prita H. Ghozi,

Founder of ZAP Finance.

The event continues with Creative Vlog session. Gritee Agatha deliver the session with the introduction of video blogging. Participants also taught how to create a vlog with good technical skills and unique content.

This event also commemorate 50 years of Citi Indonesia, and symbolized with the donation of 50 computer for 5 IBL-supported schools. The donation was represented by Tim Utama, head of Operations and Technology of Citi Indonesia.

MUDA TERAMPIL BERUSAHA (MTB)

Soft Skills Training

On May 4 – 5, 2018, Indonesia Business Links, and supported by Accenture, held another soft skills training at Dorm Hall of Balai Latihan Kerja (BLK) Disnakertrans Karawang Region.

The objective of this training, which trained by Ms. Noor Intan and Ms. Mariska, is to give each participants knowledges about positive behavior and good characters in order to face everyday problem. After this training, participants gain another new inspiration that could be implemented in daily life, in order to become a better person in the future.

This training is a part of Muda Terampil berusaha (MTB), a program aimed to increase awareness about entrepreneurship among Indonesian youth, especially in Karawang, and to help every young entrepreneurs to sustain and improve their own business

Entrepreneurship Training – Business Canvas Model

Entrepreneurship training – Business Canvas Model was held on May 12, 2018, as a part of Muda Terampil berusaha (MTB) program. This program, which directly accompanied by

Accenture team, were held at Karawang.

This training mainly discussed about Business Model Canvas and how it could be implemented on participant’s business, such as customer segmentation, product’s value proposition, cost structure, etc. By using Business Model Canvas, each participant could focusing and develop their business further.

Another session in this training was the introduction of product photography. Participants were taught the concept of product photography, technical aspects of doing product photography, and how it could be used to promote their products online.

AICHR Interregional Dialogue: Sharing Good Practices of Business and Human Rights

The dialogue programme will be conducted on behalf of the AICHR by the Representative of Thailand to the AICHR, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, the Rights and Liberties Protection Department of the Ministry of Justice of Thailand, and the ASEAN CSR Network with support from the E-READI Programme of the European Union.

This Interregional Dialogue marks the first occasion that the AICHR, the overarching human rights mechanism of ASEAN, convenes a meeting of key regional human rights mechanisms from around the world, the national human rights institutions from the Asia-Pacific region, business participants as well as representatives of civil society organizations. The objective is to exchange views and good practices on how the regional mechanisms, NHRIs and other stakeholders have played a role in helping mainstream the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the way in which these stakeholders can cooperate and collaborate further to enhance the effectiveness of the implementation of the UNGP both at the regional and national levels. The members of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, including the Chair and Vice Chair, will honour us with their presence. The Prime Minister of Thailand is also invited to open the event.

On this pillar, under the banner of IBL Sustainability Initiative eXchange (IBL SIX), the organization provides learning forums for corporation and other business stakeholders to share ideas, best practices and experiences on business sustainability issues such as water, waste management, disaster risk reduction and others as well as to discuss hot topics such as Sustainable Development Goals.

PARTNERSHIP TRAINING

IBL, in collaboration with Partnership-ID, held Partnership Training event, on June 28, 2018. Themed “Managing Effective Partnership for Sustainable Development”, this event aimed to introduce the concept of multi stakeholder partnership and brokering and how to create and maintain effective partnerships.

This event was attended by people from different backgrounds, such as private sector, government, and NGOs. The training was delivered by Ms. Erna Witoelar, Ms. Yanti Triwadiantini, and Mr. Kemal Soeriawidjaja.

On this event, participants were guided to understand more deeply about the principles of partnership, introduced the concept of Partnership Broker, and to enhance their capacity and confidence to become a partnership brokers.

On Thursday, May 31, 2018, Unilever held open fasting event, to commemorate 7 years of Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, in Nouvelle Restaurant, SCBD, South Jakarta

Unilever managed to reach 90 million people through Health and Sanitation program, such as Healthy School and Dental Checking program. On environmental issue, Unilever managed to reduce Greenhouse gases intensity and water usage up to 30%. furthermore, All of Unilever’s factories are not deliver their waste to Landfills. Unilever also use CreaSolv, a special kind of plastic that could reduce CO2 effects up to 7.00 tonnes

While in welfare improvement program, Unilever contributes in increasing the living standards of 25.000 Sugar Farmers, and also empowers 3.200 women through training programs.

Danone

In Commemoration of Environment Day in Indonesia, Danone launched #BijakBerplastik Program, a program that referring to Indonesian Government effort to reduce 70% of plastic waste product that wasted to the sea. Launching event was held in Raffles Hotel, June 5, 2018.

Although plastic has become part of communities, it also has an unwanted consequences. Since plastic use petroleum, it could become waste if it’s not recycled.

Those plastics flow into the river, and eventually into the sea.

As a pioneer of plastic waste collection since 1993, Danone Aqua has a responsibility to take action and tackle this issue. #BijakBerplastik movements encourage and engage Indonesian people to contribute in creating new behavior, such as the habit of waste recycling and active involvement in environment protection

Up until now, Danone serves 2/3 of water produced, using reusable gallon. In addition, half of PET Bottle that Danone use have been collected and recycled into new product, such as new bottle and textiles
