Reports and AttendanceThe students’ end of year reports will be sent home this Friday. At the end of each report, the number of days that your child has been absent this year is recorded. Please take the time to note how many absences your child has had this year. Whilst illness is unavoidable and it is entirely necessary to keep your child home when they are unwell, sometimes the number of absences is surprising when they are tallied, or when absences are coupled with a number of other days off school. Both new learning and consolidation happen on a daily basis at school and absences have an enormous impact upon students’ results. The Department of Education’s Student Attendance in Government Schools – Procedures document states “Regular attendance at school for every student is essential if students are to achieve their potential, and increase their career and life options. Schools in partnership with parents are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. While parents are legally responsible for the regular attendance of their children, school staff, as part of their duty of care, record and monitor part and whole day absences.”
