Introduction
Halifax Regional Municipality is in the final stages of developing the Integrated Mobility Plan (IMP)
The IMP is a strategic priorities plan that will integrate with upcoming revisions to the Regional Plan
The IMP will support growth, development and the transportation of goods and people of all ages and abilities, using all modes including walking, cycling, transit, and motor vehicles, consistent with the Regional Plan.
![Page 4: INTEGRATED MOBILITY PLAN - ITS) Canada Integrated Mobility Plan.pdf · Policies FOUNDATIONAL POLICIES • Land Use & Transportation • Complete Streets • Transportation Demand](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022050119/5f4f88814457fb1a8209b344/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Background
HRM currently has Functional Plans that guide key areas:
• Road Network• Parking• Transportation Demand Management
• Transit• Active Transportation• Goods Movement
Lack of overarching strategy linking the functional plans has made implementation difficult in some cases
More consideration of land use planning and its influence on transportation planning is needed
![Page 5: INTEGRATED MOBILITY PLAN - ITS) Canada Integrated Mobility Plan.pdf · Policies FOUNDATIONAL POLICIES • Land Use & Transportation • Complete Streets • Transportation Demand](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022050119/5f4f88814457fb1a8209b344/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Background
Past and current plans identify future roadway network expansion projects that are becoming increasingly unpopular
There is growing awareness of the potential to accommodate current and future mobility needs through alternate means including HIGHER ORDER TRANSIT andACTIVE TRANSPORTATION
![Page 6: INTEGRATED MOBILITY PLAN - ITS) Canada Integrated Mobility Plan.pdf · Policies FOUNDATIONAL POLICIES • Land Use & Transportation • Complete Streets • Transportation Demand](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022050119/5f4f88814457fb1a8209b344/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)

What did the public say?
The public said they would like to make fewer trips by car in the
future BUT they also told us that they need competitive, viable alternatives to the car.
This will require service improvements to transit as well as implementing Active Transportation solutions immediately.
