High DensityFlexible Fiber Delivering DS3s,

DS1s, STS-1s, OC-3s and Ethernet

ADTRAN’s Total Access OPTI-MXTM is an innovative and

timely solution for improving service provider profitability

and high-speed service levels. A Carrier-Class OC-3/OC-12

SONET multiplexer for flexible fiber delivery including

Ethernet over SONET, the Total Access OPTI-MX sets a

new standard for price, performance and size. Feature set,

small footprint, diverse deployment options, and low

cost make the OPTI-MX a powerful alternative to existing

product architectures.

High Density

The Total Access OPTI-MX offers OC-12, OC-3, STS-1, DS3,

Ethernet, and DS1 interface options in just 2U of rack

space. Access to 84 DS1 interfaces is supported in a single

system, integrating M13 functionality while conserving

valuable space in Central Office, Remote Terminal, and

Customer Premises locations.

Fully Utilize SONET Facilities

Subscriber demand for DS3 and DS1 services continues

to increase. With the limited electrical range of DS3 and

the availability of SONET networks, service

providers have utilized tradi-

tional, expensive

multiplexers to meet this

demand. The Total Access

OPTI-MX establishes a

lower cost standard for

the industry while maintaining the standards and

procedures for existing SONET networks.

Long Reach

The Total Access OPTI-MX can exceed a range of 40 km

using two single mode fibers and 1310/1550nm wave-

length, long-reach optics. Its fully integrated design

provides the management and redundancy features

expected of Carrier-Class broadband multiplexers.

ADTRAN provides the ability to utilize all of the

bandwidth in an OC-3 or OC-12 for customer services.

Fully ProtectedUse Anywhere

Engineered to integrate easily into existing networks,

the Total Access OPTI-MX is interoperable with GR-253

compliant SONET multiplexers and supports manage-

ment functions and alarms over the DCC for

manageability within the SONET framework. TL1, SNMP,

and ADTRAN’s traditional craft port menu access are all

supported within a single system. The optional redun-

dancy feature supports 1+1 optical and 1:1 electrical

protection on the network and tributary interfaces. The

OPTI-MX can be used in both rack and wallmount confi-

urations with powering options of 24 VDC or -48 VDC.

Full Support for TelcordiaTM OS

The Total Access OPTI-MX is fully OSMINE compliant.

TL1 and a full suite of interface options are provided

for flexible OS integration.

Cost Savings

ADTRAN’s Total Access OPTI-MX addresses applications

for SONET-based fiber multiplexers with a modular

solution optimized for cost, size, and performance.

Traditional solutions are expensive, large and often

strand capacity. With the OPTI-MX, capital savings are

immediate since customers buy only the capacity

needed. Its fully integrated, NEBS-compliant design

simplifies deployment and increases reliability.

ADTRAN productsare RUS accepted.

Total Access OPTI-3

Total Access OPTI-3TM, ADTRAN’s first standalone

fiber multiplexer, is designed to deliver three

DS3s over an OC-3 fiber connection. The OC-3

fiber connection is compatible with SONET

solutions from most major optical multiplexer

providers. Only 1U high, it is easily integrated

into existing fiber architectures or fiber-based

point-to-point applications.
