ICM Grant
Background
• On February 26, 2015, the Broward MPO was awarded a grant by FHWA in the amount of $180,000 for a planning study to advance the I-95 ICM Concept of Operations.
• FDOT will coordinate with the Broward MPO to provide in-kind services of $50,000 as a local match for the grant.
• The study will be completed by December.
What Is ICM?
FHWA
“The vision of ICM is that transportation networks will realize significant improvements in the efficient movement of people and goods through institutional collaboration and aggressive, proactive integration of existing infrastructure along major corridors”
• Manage corridor as a multi-modal system
• Tap into underutilized capacity
ICM Example
• Integrated Truck Guidance
MPO Strategic Business Plan Goal(s)
Move People (Technology)
- Identify tools used and in development to increase mobility and accessibility.
- Implement program to identify opportunities where new technology can save time and money.
Economic Development (Movement of Goods)
- Negotiated MOUs with stakeholders to share information and delegate responsibility to notify
the public of possible delays and detours.
ICM Goals & Objectives
• Improve accessibility, travel options, and level of mobility
• Informational tools to make smart travel choices
• Improve operations of goods movement
• Enhance safety record
• Employ an integrated approach to resolve problems
• Holistically manage networks

ICM System
Implementation of ICM
• Utilizing existing infrastructure and data
• Gathering existing data into one system/shared resource
• Ensuring the ICM system is scalable
• Expanding limits • Additional stakeholders
• Additional infrastructure
• Developing a Decision Support System
ICM Future Possibilities • Links to various ITS, Signal and Transit Systems
• Bring in intersection status and system detector data
• Color road segments on map based level of service
• Trigger response plans based on detector data
• Send response plan triggers or timing plan change commands back to local signal system
• Activate diversion routes across multiple agencies
• Regional Information Hub • Collect traffic data from freeways and surrounding signal and transit systems
• Display congestion information on regional map
• Collect incident and construction closures from surrounding areas
• Display congestion, incident, and construction data on public website
• Predictive congestion warnings
