AVIATION ENGLISHThe English course is optional and will be offered to all candidates who have not succeeded the Online English Test. Aviation English is a new course in English language communication skills for pilots and air traffic controllers, helping students to achieve and maintain a Level 4 according to the ICAO language requirements. Aviation English will be performed with groups in a classroom.

SKILLS ASSESSMENTAssessment at two levelsTo determine if you have the potential to become an airline pilot is not an easy task. In order to accomplish this mission, we have teamed up with a company specialized in selection processes for airline pilots.

First Level:SkyTest® has a huge experience in evaluation and training of candidates applying for airlines such as Emirates, British Airways, Qatar Airways, etc. The assessment will be performed online.

The first part is focusing on psychometrics. There is no need for training prior to conducting these tests. The second part is about mathematics and physics. You can train as much as you want but you can take the test only once.

Second level:The second level is dealing with your ability to understand, read, write and speak English. For this purpose, you will have to pass the online test. If you want to prepare or have remedial training, Hub’Air will provide you with a made to measure course.

The results will be analyzed and you will be notified of the results. If the result is positive, you will have an interview with a senior airline pilot in order to define your motivation and he/she will answer any questions you may have about the work and the industry. Upon completion, you will receive an answer from Hub’Air whether you have been accepted to start the course.

MEDICAL CLASS 1Anyone wishing to train for a commercial or airline transport pilot licence will need to obtain an initial Class 1 medical certificate as part of the licensing requirements. Please note that only one EU medical certificate may be held at a time.

what to expectThe medical examination may take up to 4 hours and includes:

Medical History - These are a series of questions about medical history and any previous illness. You will be asked about them by your AME, and if there was any major illness in your past, it is important to bring reports about it from your family doctor or treating specialist.

Eyesight -If you wear glasses or contact lenses it is important to take your last optician’s report along to the examination. An applicant may be assessed as fit with hypermetropia not exceeding +5.0 dioptres, myopia not exceeding -6.0 dioptres, astigmatism not exceeding 2.0 dioptres, and anisometropia not exceeding 2.0 dioptres, provided that optimal correction has been considered and no significant pathology is demonstrated. Monocular visual acuities should be 6/6 or better.

Physical Examination - This is a general check making sure that all is functioning correctly. It will cover lungs, heart, blood pressure, stomach, limbs and nervous system.

Hearing – A pure tone audiometry test will evaluate your hearing. Applicants may not have a hearing loss of more than 35dB at any of the frequencies 500Hz, 1000Hz or 2000Hz, or more than 50dB at 3000Hz, in either ear separately.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) - This measures the electrical impulses passing through your heart.

Lung function test (spirometry) - This tests your ability to expel air rapidly from your lungs.

Haemoglobin blood test - This is a finger prick blood test which measures the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood.

Urine test – You will be asked to provide a sample of urine. Remember to attend for examination with a full bladder. This tests for sugar (diabetes), protein or blood in the urine.

GRADINGThe International Air Transport Association (IATA) has identified pilot handling as a major cause of global airline accidents, accounting for 30% of all accidents. Pilot ‘handling’ has been highlighted for the first time. It differs from pilot ‘error’ in that sense, that it also includes judgement and procedures.

Even if modern airliners require the use of automation, it sometimes still requires the handling flying skills of a pilot. That is exactly why Hub’Air Aviation Academy has decided to focus more on the basic skills that make good pilots, and this from the very beginning.

Cadets pilots will fly 15h in a very challenging, classical tailwheel aircraft to grasp the basics of flight.

The aircraft will allow you to master the key elements of flying without interference of numerous instruments and avionics. The Piper cub PA18-150 is a small, simple, light overpowered aircraft with tandem seats, and is one of the most popular and best-known trainers of all time.

This phase of flight training will also be a grading phase to evaluate if you have the ability to follow a learning curve required to become an airline pilot.

A flight test will be performed after 15 h of flight training to determine if you are allowed to continue the training and proceed to the next phase of the course.

The training will be performed in the vicinity of Lyon, in the beautiful south of France.

Accommodation will be available around the site.

FUNDAMENTALS OF FLIGHTThe fundamentals of flight are conducted over a period of 6 months in our EASA-approved Airline Training Center located in France. The academy campus is located right next door to Lyon International Airport in the south of France. Additionally, housing and recreational facilities offer our students a collegiate experience built within a professional atmosphere. We offer quick access to the flight line, which is complete with our large fleet, our hangar and our EASA-approved maintenance department and repair station. No matter what time of the year you come to the academy in Lyon, you will find one thing all pilots look for...great flying weather!

In order to improve the quality of the training , we have teamed up with aerobatics champions, famous military French aerobatic team leaders and test fighter pilots to design a unusual attitude course. They will act as instructors and you will be asked to perform solo flights and aerobatic maneuvers in the presence of professional experts.

You will will also be trained to fly precision navigation flights at low altitude to demonstrate your accuracy in navigation flights. Besides that, you will also perform and demonstrate precision landings. Hub’Air is the only flight training academy to take the initiative in going back to basics in order to get highly skilled pilots on board of transport aircrafts.

ATPL THEORYIntegrated Learning System is a unique way of success for the ATPL Theory

Once you have completed the basic flight training in France, you will join us in Malta for 4 months where you will take the first set of exams after 3 weeks of home study. After the first exams, you will study the subjects of Module 2 for 4 months and then take the remaining exams.

During the class learning phase, you are guided carefully through the subjects with the help of our qualified instructors.

The course includes traditional training manuals integrated with state of the art computer based training and electronic testing. Depending on your preference you can work either from the manuals, or the computer program, or both.

There are short quizzes at the end of each lesson which require a 100% pass to complete the lesson. In addition, progress tests are placed at the end of each significant section. The progress tests and lessons have to be completed using the electronic testing facility which automatically sends us the results. All lessons must be completed and progress tests must be passed before you will be eligible to get signed off for your examinations.

While working on your ATPL, it is very important that you make use of our instructors if you run into problems or have any queries. We insist on more than 750h in-class teaching for your own benefit.

ADVANCED TRAININGMastering a little airliner...The advanced training phase will be done in Malta for a period of approximately 5 months. In order to provide quality, Hub’Air is proud to offer the best advanced technology aircraft and simulators found at this level. The similarities between our trainers and new airliners such as Airbus A320 and Boeing B737NG make the transition to these cockpits easier. The advanced course is split into two phases. The initial phase is performedin the simulator DA42. You will learn how to handle a complex multiengine aircraft in bad weather conditions or with failures.

The second phase will be in the real aircraft DA42. You will apply in the aircraft everything that you have learned in the simulator. MULTICREw CO-OPERATIONThe Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) course is an essential requirement for airline pilot employment. The course introduces the skills and concepts required to operate effectively in a multi-crew environment.

The purpose of this course is to teach you the concepts of multi-crew cooperation and not the actual crew procedures required for a specific aircraft type. Therefore, there is no need to do the MCC training in a full-flight simulator. To give you the best possible insight into the actual airline operations, the course is taught by operational airline pilots, who fly aircraft like Airbus, Boeing or other sophisticated airliners on a daily basis.

For this course you will be flying our generic turbofan FNPT-2 simulator which simulates jet-like handling and has a full Electronic Flight Instruments System (EFIS) cockpit. It is an ideal learning platform and avoids the unnecessary cost of an expensive airliner simulator.

The aims of the course are to:• Complete the MCC requirement• Learn the concept of flying in a multi-crew environment• Prepare you for conversion to jet operations• Simulate many different scenarios of typical airline flights ranging from pre-flight preparation

to flight ops and post flight procedures.

The course includes 25 hours (3 days) of ground school and 20hours (5 days) in the simulator. The course takes 8 days, usually running from a Monday to a Monday.

Airlines Selection TrainingNewly licensed pilots need to be trained on airline interviews and selections. Our highly experienced staff who are used to perform selections or to organize selections for airlines, will place you into the situation. Invaluable tips and tricks will allow you to make the difference and be hired!



Jet Automation Transition Course (JAT Course)Many pilots transitioning into a modern airliner are encountering difficulties with the automation and the logics associated to aircraft systems and avionics. Flying through «push button» is a real challenge during the initial training in a complex aircraft such as Airbus A320 or Boeing 737NG.

The purpose of this course is to teach you the systems of a sophisticated airliner such as the A320. You will learn how to use the flight management computers and how to control the aircraft through a control panel.

You will be able to perform a complete flight with all sequences associated with the Airbus standard operating procedures. You will fly fully automated approaches, ILS and NON-ILS including go around, etc. You will learn the complete methodology of solving non-normal situations through the ECAM and associated checklists.

The only subjects which are not being covered by this «small type rating» will be the handling portion since we do not intend to complete a full A320 rating. Instead, you will get the philosophy of that training which will ease your transition to a type rating from any manufacturer.You will also learn all the theory associated with this aircraft including all the performance syllabi. The course includes 8 days of ground school and 6 days (24h) in the simulator A320 MFTD.

why A320?The A320 is one of the most automated aircraft ever built and will give you confidence in managing the autoflight procedure and how to solve non normal events. We will focus on methodology that will apply in all airliners including Boeing aircraft.



ACCOMMODATION The learning environment is a key role in the quality of your training...Training is most effective when it takes place in a professional supportive environment. There are two major training locations in the integrated course: France and Malta. There are many excellent local inns and B&Bs within easy reach or walking distance of our learning centres.

Several options are available. When you are not flying, you will find that at both locations, everything is in place to study or just relax. The south of France and Malta offer great weather all year round for flying and outdoor activities.

The price of the accommodation will vary according to your choice.



FAQ’swhy an Assessment?The purpose of the assessment is to help you. Knowing if you have the ability to start an airline pilot training, is essential and will increase your chances of success. The investment in time and money is huge and you must be sure that you are at the right level to start your training.

Retake of the assessment?If you have failed for psychometrics reasons, you will have to wait one year. If it regards the English proficiency, you will have the opportunity to retake the exam after 3 months.

Do we need maths?Yes, but only the elementary maths and physics. Secondary school level is sufficient.

Validity of license?A license is valid 1 year.

License recognized by EU States?Yes, the license is valid in all EU states and in the vast majority of the world. You will end up with an Belgian EASA licence.

what about PPL?You will obtain a private pilot license issued in France. Therefore, you will be able to fly all over Europe.

what do I need to travel to Europe ?A valid passport or ID-card. We will gladly assist you if you need a VISA to enter Europe.

Insurances?You will be covered by our insurance throughout the training. You will also benefit from a loss of license insurance that will refund you up to €75.000 in case of medical problems.
