1. INTRODUCTION

The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore and

SEAB are the joint examining authority for the examinations except for Mother Tongue subjects and subjects

examined in Mother Tongue, where SEAB is the examining authority.

The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education [Normal (Technical) (N(T)), Normal (Academic)

(N(A)), Ordinary (O) Level and Advanced (A)Level] Examinations are administered by the Singapore

Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).

You are advised to read the information contained herein carefully and to comply with those applicable to the

subjects you are sitting for.

By registering for the examination, you will confirm that you have read, understood and expressly agreed to

comply with the examination instructions and regulations contained in this booklet.

You may be issued with additional administrative or procedural documents or instructions for the conduct of

specific examinations (for example, written papers, coursework, oral, and practical), which form part of the

instructions & regulations with any changes taking immediate effect unless stated.

You will be informed of any updates on examination-related information via your email address which you have

provided during registration. You can also check the SEAB website (https://www.seab.gov.sg) regularly for

such updates.

The national examination question papers are copyrighted and must not be posted online, published or

reproduced in any other form without permission from SEAB. SEAB shall take the necessary actions if there

are any copyright infringements.

No part of this document, whether image, text or otherwise, may be copied, reproduced, published, adapted,

modified, distributed, transmitted, communicated and/or stored in any form or by any means without the prior

written permission of the SEAB.

Students who are studying in the Government/Government-aided/Independent/Specialised

schools are not allowed to register as private candidates. If you have registered as school

candidate for GCE N(T)-Level, N(A)-Level, O-Level and/or A-Level Examinations, your registration

as a private candidate will be invalidated and paid examination fees will be forfeited.

2. REGISTRATION

2.1. ENTRY REQUIREMENT

2.1.1. GCE N(A) and N(T) Levels

a) You may register as a private candidate if you satisfy the minimum age requirement of 15 years as at 1st January 2017.

b) You may register up to a maximum of EIGHT subjects.

2.1.2. GCE O-Level

a) You may register as a private candidate if you satisfy the minimum age requirement of 15 years as

at 1st January 2017.

b) You may register up to a maximum of NINE subjects.

2.1.3. GCE A-Level

a) You may register as a private candidate if you satisfy the minimum age requirement of 17 years as at 1st January 2017.

b) Subjects Examined at H1 and H2 Levels:

You may register up to a maximum of five H1 subjects and three H2 subjects, or three H1 subjects and four H2 subjects.

2.2. REGISTRATION PERIOD

You can register for the N(T)-, N(A)-, O- and/or A-Level through the Singapore Examinations and

Assessment Board (SEAB) internet website at https://www.seab.gov.sg from 10 March 2017 to 28 March

2017.

It is compulsory that you sit for all registered components of a subject, such as

Oral, Listening Comprehension, Coursework, Practical and Written Papers.

‘Absent’ will be issued for the subject if you do not turn up for one or more

components, unless you have been granted prior exemption by SEAB for this

component(s).

2.3. EXAMINATION SUBJECTS

2.3.1. You may refer to the list of subjects and incompatible subjects in the GCE N(T)-Level, N(A)-Level, O-

Level and A-Level Examinations in Annex A.

2.3.2. Details of the examination syllabuses can be found on the SEAB website at https://www.seab.gov.sg.

2.3.3. If the candidature for a subject is less than twenty, the subject may not be offered and you will be

informed. You may be offered to choose another subject permitted by the regulations. Refund will be

given accordingly under such circumstances.

2.3.4. Science with Practical paper entry requirement:

If you are registering for a Science subject with a practical paper, you must

(a) have sat the same Science subject previously, OR (b) be currently attending or will be attending a course of instruction in Science practical at any

institute/school.

Your entry for a science subject will only be accepted if you meet the above requirement.

If you are registering for a Science subject with a practical paper, you are required to declare online at

the time of registration that you have fulfilled the above requirement. If a false declaration is made, your

registration for the science subject with practical paper is liable to be cancelled without refund of the

examination fees.

2.3.5. Science with SPA paper entry requirement:

(a) Only if you have taken SPA in school in 2016, you can then register for Science subjects with SPA paper for 2017.

(b) You will not need to sit the SPA paper. Your SPA marks obtained in 2016 will be used in the computation of your overall subject grade, under the following conditions:

(i) You have declared and opted for your 2016 SPA marks to be used in the computation of your overall subject grade. The 2016 SPA marks would not be made known to you.

(ii) All SPA marks must be carried forward. You cannot retake any component of the SPA assessments.

(iii) SPA marks can only be carried forward for one year.

(c) You will not be able to carry forward your SPA marks if you were granted exemption from any assessment for SPA paper in 2016. You will be advised to register for a Science subject with a practical paper instead.

(d) You should refer to Annex A to confirm the paper (SPA/practical) that you are registering for the Science subject(s).

2.3.6. Mid-Year & Year End Mother Tongue Subjects

(a) The O- and/or A-Level Mother Tongue Language subjects may be taken at the Mid-Year and/or Year-End examinations. For these subjects, you can choose to register for the Mid-Year or the Year-End examination during the March registration period.

(b) If you have registered for the Mother Tongue Language subjects for the Mid-Year examinations, you may register to re-sit the written papers for these subjects by registering for the Year-End examinations after the release of Mid-Year results. You will be advised on the registration procedures when you receive the Mid-Year results in August 2017.

(c) Candidates who sit the Mid-Year examination, regardless of whether they offer any subject in the Year-End examination, will receive only one result slip reflecting all the subjects that they have registered in the year. If you sit your Mother Tongue subject during both the Mid-Year and Year-End examinations, the better result of the two sittings will be reflected on the result slip.

(d) The Mid-Year Mother Tongue subjects are as follow:

2.4. EXAMINATION FEES

2.4.1. You will pay the amount of examination fees according to your citizenship. The examination fees payable will be determined based on the candidates’ citizenship at the point of registration.

2.4.2. The basic fee structure is as follows:

2.4.3. A subject fee is payable for every subject that you have registered. Refer to Annex A for the respective subject fee.

2.4.4. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 7% is applicable to both basic and subject fees.

2.4.5. Examination fees are not transferable from one year to another or from one candidate to another.

2.4.6. Mode of Payment

You may choose to pay your examination fees online via credit/debit card payment or at any SingPost office or Self-Automated Machines (S.A.M).

Your registration will be considered as incomplete and will be cancelled if you do not make your payment by the payment deadline.

2.5. AMENDMENTS TO REGISTERED SUBJECTS

2.5.1. You are advised to check your registration details carefully before submission.

2.5.2. You can change the subjects/papers that you have registered without any amendment fee, if you

have not paid your examination fees online and the amendments are made before the end of the registration period.

2.5.3. For amendments of subjects/papers after payment is made or after the registration period, you will

have to complete and email the ‘Amendment Request Form’ to [email protected]. An amendment fee of S$20.00 is payable in addition to the new subject fee.

2.5.4. The deadlines for amendments to registration are as follows:

24 April 2017 for GCE N(T)/ N(A)-Level subjects and O/ A-Level Mid-Year subjects

25 June 2017 for GCE O-Level and GCE A-Level Year-End subjects

If you withdraw from the examinations, you will NOT receive any results, result slips

or certificates for any subjects or components of subjects that you have taken.

If the examination results have already been released (for example, the mid-year

written examination results) to you, your results will be invalidated.

3. WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND

3.1. WITHDRAWAL FROM ENTIRE EXAMINATION

3.1.1. You may request to withdraw from the entire examination provided that your withdrawal form reach

SEAB before the start of the year-end written examination.

3.1.2. The withdrawal forms and any supporting document(s) must be submitted to SEAB via email

([email protected]). An acknowledgement will be made within 5 working days upon receipt of the

withdrawal form. (A copy of the withdrawal form is shown in Annex E.)

3.2. REFUND

3.2.1. You may be given a 50% refund of subject fee paid (inclusive GST) if you submit your withdrawal

request to SEAB

by 28 April 2017 for GCE N(T)- and N(A)-Level examinations; and

by 30 June 2017 for GCE O-Level and GCE A-Level examinations

3.2.2. You will not receive a refund of your examination fees if

your withdrawal request is made after the respective deadlines, or

if you have sat for a component of the registered subject.

3.2.3. If you withdraw from the whole examination before the stipulated deadlines, refund will be made to you

in approximately one month after your request is approved by SEAB.

3.3. ADMISSION TO TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

3.3.1. If you wish to re-sit the GCE O- or A-Level examination but are in the process of applying for admission to tertiary institutions, you should register during the registration period (10 – 28 March 2017) to avoid incurring late registration fees.

a) You may apply for a full refund (less subjects which you might have sat for) of the examination fees

if you subsequently gain admission to the tertiary institutions.

3.3.2. The withdrawal forms and supporting letters of acceptance issued by the tertiary institutions must

be submitted to SEAB via email ([email protected]) by 30 June 2017. [Back to Top] [Back to Content Page]

If you wish to apply for AA, you should download and complete the access arrangement

application form from SEAB website

(https://www.seab.gov.sg/content/eservices/ApplicationForm_AA_PrivateCandidates.pdf)

and submit your application by 29 March 2017 to SEAB via email ([email protected]).

Applications typically require 3 to 4 months for review and late applications may not be

accepted or approved due to insufficient time for review.

An acknowledgement will be made within 5 working days upon receipt of the application.

4. ACCESS ARRANGEMENT

If you have specific learning and physical needs diagnosed before the examination, you can apply for Access

Arrangements (AA). AA are arrangements granted to enable you to sit for the examination without compromising

assessment objectives. AA are not intended to give you an unfair advantage over other candidates in the same

examination.

4.1. APPLICATION FOR ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS

4.1.1. You can expect to receive the outcomes of your applications for access arrangements by June 2017,

if you submit your application by 29 March 2017. If you have applied for access arrangements for the

Mother Tongue mid-year examination, you can expect to receive the outcome of your application by

May 2017 if you submit your application by 29 March 2017.

4.1.2. You should bring along and present the approved AA outcomes to the examination personnel before the start of the examination to indicate the AA granted by SEAB.

4.1.3. If you wish to withdraw the AA granted, you are required to submit a letter of withdrawal to SEAB at

least five days before the date of exam. SEAB will not re-instate the provision of the AA once they

have been withdrawn.

4.2. ANNOTATION ON YOUR RESULT SLIP AND CERTIFICATE

4.2.1. Your results will be annotated for the following AA:

Extra-time allowance (including preparation time for oral exam);

Exemption from satisfying the full range of assessment objectives in a subject (e.g. exemption

from oral, listening comprehension etc.);

Modification of examination papers;

Use of word processor facilities and other computer aids;

Use of Reader or Scribe/Writer/Amanuensis; and

Practical assistance in areas such as handling apparatus during practical examination, using

instruments or graph plotting.

4.2.2. There are two types of annotation symbols. The explanations for the symbols (provided on the reverse

side of the result slip and certificate) are as follows:

‘The candidate was exempted from satisfying the full range of assessment objectives in this

subject.’

Access Arrangement Symbol (+)

‘The candidate sat the paper under access arrangements’

4.2.3. Your results will still be annotated even if you do not make use of the approved AA during the national

examinations or do not submit the letter of withdrawal to SEAB by the stipulated deadline.

5. EXAMINATION RULES AND REGULATIONS

5.1 You must not have in your possession:

5.1.1 Any unauthorised electronic, communication, entertainment or gaming devices capable of capturing,

storing, displaying and/or transmitting or receiving visual, audio or verbal information within the

examination premises (e.g. Examination Room, Quarantine Room, Waiting Room). Examples of

prohibited items include (but not limited to) mobile phones, cameras, tablets, earphones/earpieces

(wired or wireless) and smart wrist watches/glasses, pen with image capturing capabilities.

5.1.2 Any unauthorised reference materials or notes. All stationery/belongings taken into the examination

venue (e.g. pencil case, calculator cover, cover for ruler, entry proof) must not have any unauthorised

notes/information written on them. You must also ensure you do not have any information or notes

written on any parts of your body (e.g. hands and thighs).

Examples of prohibited items include conversion table/mathematical formula sheet enclosed in or

printed on the mathematical instrument box, any study notes or any examination question papers.

5.2 You must not commit or attempt any acts of dishonesty, or the support of such acts (e.g. Taking the

exam on someone else’s behalf, using unauthorised devices to gain an advantage, copying of answers).

5.3 You must not commit plagiarism (i.e. using someone else’s work or findings without acknowledging the

source of that information) or the support of such offences.

5.4 You must not communicate or attempt to communicate with any other candidate/person inside or outside

the examination room during the examination or any other occasion when communication with any other

candidate/person is strictly prohibited (e.g. during group movement to the quarantine area). You should also

only face the front and not turn around during the exam.

5.5 You must not write any offensive or obscene materials in your answer script.

5.6 You must not exhibit improper conduct or misbehaviour during the examination.

(e.g. disrupting other candidates, leaving examination area without approval or unescorted, not obeying

instructions from examination personnel).

5.7 You must not leave the examination room/hall, quarantine and holding room without permission from the

examination personnel.

5.8 You must not continue to write after the invigilator has made the announcement to stop writing.

5.9 You must not remove any examination material/stationery without permission. These can include:

Any answer booklet, writing paper, storage devices and other used or unused examination stationery

from the examination venue.

Any coursework material/artefact from the examination centre without seeking prior approval from

SEAB.

5.10 You must not submit coursework which has been submitted for past examinations or submit similar (in

part or in whole) work for more than one paper in the present year of examination.

5.11 You must not report to examination centre in attire that is inappropriate for a school environment.

Male Private Candidates should be in shirt/collared t-shirt with trousers and should wear covered shoes.

Female Private Candidates should not be wearing revealing or outlandish clothes. No flip-flops, shorts or

odd appearance are allowed in the examination room.

Use of Calculators and Dictionaries

5.12 You must adhere to the following rules where the use of scientific calculators and dictionaries is allowed in

the examinations. Any non-compliance will be considered as a breach of the examination regulations and

you may be subjected to the penalty measures.

5.13

5.13.1 Your calculator must be silent, with a visual display only.

5.13.2 You are to ensure that the calculator is in working condition (including the power supply) and

any fault in the calculator will not be considered as justification for special consideration.

5.13.3 You are not allowed to share calculators with another candidate during the examination.

5.13.4 If the calculator comes with external storage features, you must not possess the external storage

media (e.g. cards, tapes, and plug-in modules) during the examination.

5.13.5 Your calculator and its cover must not have any mathematical formula, conversion table or

instructions. Any such information on the calculator that cannot be removed must be securely

covered.

5.13.6 The original model number and brand must be indicated clearly on the calculator for verification

purposes.

5.13.7 Your scientific calculator must not be programmable or with permanent features of a

programmed kind e.g. calculators capable of numerical integration and/or numerical

differentiation.

5.13.8 GCE A-Level:

Calculators may be used for the following subjects: a) All Mathematics subjects b) All Science subjects c) Economics d) Geography e) Principles of Accounting f) Management of Business

For all other subjects, the possession of calculators is prohibited.

5.13.9 Graphing calculators are allowed for use ONLY in subjects examined at H1 and H2 Levels of the GCE A-Level Curriculum. You are to take note of the following:

Use of calculators

You are only allowed to use the approved calculator models listed from SEAB website

(http://www.seab.gov.sg/content/calculator/GuidelinesCalculators.pdf).

The calculators used in the national examinations should have the following minimum features:

a) four arithmetic operations (, , , ) including the order of operations and use of brackets;

b) fractional function which retains the fraction in the form ‘a/b’ and ‘a b/c’;

c) square root ( ) and cube root ( 3 ) functions; and

d) value of Pi ().

The use of any calculator with unacceptable features or for retrieval of information/programs during the examinations is an infringement of the regulations.

a) You have to clear any information and/or programs stored in the graphing calculators before the examination. You can refer to Annex D on the steps to clear all memory in the graphing calculators.

b) No prepared programs may be taken into the examination room. Information (including text or formulae) and/or programs stored in the calculator's memory must be cleared before the examination.

c) No calculators with built-in symbolic algebra manipulations, symbolic differentiation or integration are allowed.

5.14

5.14.1 You must not possess any dictionary in examinations where the use of a dictionary is prohibited.

5.14.2 Your e-dictionary must be silent and battery operated. Ear-pieces / headphones are not permitted

in the exam venue.

Note: You should ensure that a replacement set of batteries is available.

5.14.3 No allowance will be made should your e-dictionary fail to function during the examination.

5.14.4 You must remove any external storage media (e.g. SD card and plug-in modules) before the

examination if your electronic dictionary has an external storage.

5.14.5 You are not allowed to share your dictionary with or borrow dictionary from other

candidates during the examination.

5.14.6 For candidates offering A-Level H2 Translation (Chinese), there is no approved list of dictionaries.

Candidates may bring in any hard-copy dictionary (Chinese / English / English to Chinese /

Chinese to English) as long as there are no annotations on any of the pages.

No electronic dictionaries are allowed for A-Level H2 Translation (Chinese).

5.14.7 Approved dictionaries can be used for the following papers :

Use of dictionaries:

You are only allowed to use approved printed dictionaries /handheld electronic

dictionaries for subjects that are listed in para 5.16.8. You can find the list of approved

dictionaries from SEAB website

(https://www.seab.gov.sg/content/dictionary/2017GCENOADictList.pdf).

There is no approved list of dictionaries for Non-Tamil Indian Languages (NTILs). Any

monolingual dictionary for the language may be used.

There must be no annotation on any pages of the printed dictionary (e.g. written notes,

post-it pads, highlights and quick tabs).

a) The question paper will be issued separately in 2 parts: Part 1 consists of

Composition/Functional-writing and Part 2 consists of Comprehension and Language Usage.

b) Part 1 will be issued to candidates first.

c) Dictionaries can only be used for Part 1 of the paper.

d) At the end of Paper 1 Part 1, there will be an admin break of 15 mins. Candidates should remain seated during the admin break.

e) During the admin break, candidates will be instructed to place their dictionaries on the floor.

f) Paper 1 Part 2 question papers will only be issued after all candidates have placed their dictionaries on the floor.

g) During the admin break candidates are NOT allowed to read the questions in Paper 1 Part

2, go through their answers in Part 1 or do any writing. After the admin break, candidates may either answer Paper 1 Part 2 straightaway or continue with Paper 1 Part 1. Candidates’ dictionaries must be left on the floor during Paper 1 Part 2 as their usage is prohibited during Paper 1 Part 2.

h) The total time for the examination excludes the 15-min admin break.

5.15 Ownership of Examination Materials

5.15.1 The national examination-related copyright materials (e.g. exam question papers and answer

scripts) are copyrighted and must not be published, reproduced in any other form or posted

online, without prior permission from SEAB. SEAB will take the necessary actions if there are any

copyright infringements.

5.15.2 All documents (including result slips and certificates) issued to you by SEAB must be returned to

SEAB without delay upon demand by SEAB. Failure to comply may result in legal proceedings

against you to recover such documents and costs.

5.15.3 All examination scripts and materials (for example, coursework, project work, research work, and

SPA etc.) submitted for assessment purposes are deemed as examination material and will thus

become property of SEAB.

5.15.4 Centres and candidates are not permitted to submit examination materials for exhibition,

competition, publication or for any other purposes without the authorisation of the Chief Executive,

SEAB.

5.15.5 SEAB may return coursework material to the schools at our discretion. SEAB will not be held

responsible for any loss of or damage to the materials during or after marking/ moderation, if they

sustain damages during the examination process. However, SEAB will do its utmost to avoid any

damages.

If you fail to comply with the abovementioned rules and regulations or any other

additional instructions issued by SEAB for any specific examination paper or subject,

you would be deemed to have breached the examination rules and regulations. As a

result, you may:

Be prohibited from taking the examination;

Be expelled from the examination premise;

Be refused entry for subsequent papers;

Have your results terminated or imposed with a grade penalty;

Have your result slip and/or certificate withheld or confiscated;

Be banned from registering for future examinations; and/or

Be reported to the police for investigation and consequential prosecution.

6 EXAMINATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SITTING EXAMINATIONS

6.1 EXAMINATION TIME-TABLE

You should refer to the Examination Time-Table at https://www.seab.gov.sg/ for the subjects which you have

registered. The Examination Time-Table will be available at the start of the registration in March 2017.

6.1.1 Written, Oral and Listening Comprehension Examination

You will be informed, through your Personalised Entry Proof /Timetables of the date, reporting time and examination venue by 26 June 2017. There is no re-sit of the examination. You will be marked as ‘Absent’ if you missed the examination.

6.1.2 Practical Examination

You will be informed through letters by end September 2017 of your GCE O- or A-Level practical examination schedule and the venue where you will take the practical examination.

6.2 ENTRY PROOF

6.2.1 If you have registered for the Mid-Year examination, you will receive a personalised Entry Proof /

Timetable by 12 May 2017. The Entry Proof/Timetable will show a candidate's Centre Number, Index

Number and Mid-Year Written Examination Centre as well as the examination date and time for the

registered Mid-Year subjects.

The Entry Proof/Timetable will show

a) Your Centre Number/Index Number

b) The examination venue for the Mid-Year Written examination

c) The Mid-Year written papers that your have registered for

d) The examination date and time of your Mid-Year written papers

6.2.2 All registered candidates will receive a personalised Entry Proof/Timetable by 26 June 2017.

The Entry Proof/Timetable will show

e) Your Centre Number/Index Number

f) The examination venue

g) The subjects and papers you have registered for

h) The examination date and time of your papers

6.2.3 A sample of the Entry Proof is shown on the next page.

6.2.4 You are advised to provide your postal address accurately as you are likely to be posted to sit for the

examination at an examination centre near your postal address. You must take your examination at

the centres you are posted to.

6.2.5 If you have registered two papers which are scheduled to be examined at the same time on the same

day, arrangements will be made for you to take one paper first, followed by a break before you take

the other paper. You will be informed of the arrangements by end August 2017 for the GCE N(T)- and

N(A)-Level examinations and end September 2017 for the GCE O- and A-Level examinations.

6.2.6 You are to contact the Ministry of Education, Customer Service Centre at 6872 2220 if you do not

receive your Entry Proof/Timetable by 12 May 2017 for Mid-Year Examination and / or 26 June 2017

for Year-End Examination.

6.3 CHANGE OF PERSONAL PARTICULARS

6.3.1 If you need to change your personal particulars (e.g. address, contact number, email address etc), you are required to complete the ‘Notification of Change in Personal Particulars’ form which can be found in SEAB website at https://www.seab.gov.sg. The completed form has be sent to SEAB via email ([email protected]). An acknowledgement will be made within 5 working days upon receipt of the change of personal particulars request.

6.3.2 Entry proof, result slips and other exam-related documents will be mailed to your postal address. You

should inform SEAB immediately of any change to your postal address.

6.4 REPORTING TIME FOR EXAMINATION

6.4.1 You are required to report to your examination centre at least 30 minutes before the start of the

examination. You have to be seated at your assigned desk at least 15 minutes before the start of the

examination.

6.4.2 You will not be given any make-up time if you report late for examination.

6.5 DURING EXAMINATION

6.5.1 You must not open the question and answer booklets or start reading and writing unless told to do so

by the exam personnel.

6.5.2 You must place your Entry Proof, NRIC or foreign identification documents on your desk throughout

the examination.

6.5.3 Access Arrangement: If you are granted access arrangements, you should present the approved

outcome letter to the examination personnel before the start of the examination. You must

highlight immediately if your approved access arrangement is not given to you.

6.5.4 You should use 2B pencils for shading of the Personalised Multiple Choice Answer sheet.

6.5.5 You must submit your answers in the language in which the question paper is set, unless otherwise

instructed by the questions.

6.5.6 You should avoid using correction tape or fluid on the answer script or writing paper as it may affect

the legibility of the answers.

6.5.7 You must not eat in the examination room/hall. However, you are allowed to drink water and the

water bottle must be placed on the floor next to your seat.

7 INSTRUCTIONS FOR UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS

7.1 If you are hospitalised or suffering from any infectious disease (e.g. chicken pox).

7.1.1 SEAB can make arrangements for you to sit the examination in the hospital (if you are hospitalised) or

at a designated examination centre (for infectious disease).

7.1.2 You will have to provide your own writing stationery, dictionary, calculator etc. when you sit for the

examination in a hospital.

7.2 If you are unable to sit for an examination paper or sat the examination under adverse conditions (e.g.

medical reasons, bereavement, physical injuries, etc) you may apply for Special Consideration, provided that:

7.2.1 You have sat for at least 50% of the total assessment of the affected subject, and

7.2.2 You must have the relevant supporting documents to support your application (e.g. medical

report/statement from a qualified medical practitioner).

7.3 Major Train Service Disruptions

7.3.1 Candidates who are able to arrive at the examination centre before the end of the paper

7.3.1.1 You should still make your way to your designated examination centre.

7.3.1.2 You will be given the full duration to sit the paper as long as you arrive before the end

of the paper.

7.3.2 Candidates who are unable to arrive at the examination centre before the end of the paper

7.3.2.1 You can go to an examination centre nearest to you to take your examination if you

are unable to reach the examination centre before the end of the paper.

7.3.2.2 You should follow the instructions provided at the train station on the bridging

transport services available or go to the Passenger Service Centre for assistance.

7.3.2.3 Please visit the SEAB website (https://www.seab.gov.sg/) for the list of examination

centres near MRT/ LRT stations.

7.3.3 Candidates who arrive at the examination centre after the paper has ended

7.3.3.1 If you arrive at the examination centre after the paper has ended or unable to reach

an examination centre at all, you should inform SEAB through Ministry of Education,

Customer Service Hotline at 6872 2220 immediately.

2220 before the start of the examination. Arrangements can be made for you to sit the

examination if:

you have been certified as medically fit by a qualified medical practitioner to sit the

examination and

your request to sit the examination is submitted through to SEAB before the start of

7.4 Other Unexpected Situations

7.4.1 For any unexpected situations where you are not able to reach the examination centre on time

for the examination (e.g. caught in massive traffic jam or flood), you must contact SEAB through

Ministry of Education, Customer Service Hotline at 6872 2220 immediately for assistance.

You may be posted to another examination centre to take your examination for certain subjects

such as Science Practical and Foreign Languages examinations.

For such papers, you must still report to the designated examination centre indicated on

your entry proof even if you are unable to reach the examination centre before the end of the

paper.

8 RESULTS AND CERTIFICATION

8.1 RELEASE OF RESULTS

7.3.1 SingPass Holders

If you are eligible to apply for SingPass, you can view your examination results online via SEAB’s internet Results Release System (iERRS) with your SingPass account. The hardcopy result slips would be mailed to you on the day of the results release to the postal address that was registered with SEAB during the registration phase.

Note: The SingPass has been enhanced with a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all e-government transactions that display sensitive individual data or those that require high level of identity assurance. The iERRS is one such e-government service that requires a 2FA login. If you are eligible to apply for SingPass, you are advised to visit the SingPass website at www.singpass.gov.sg to register, activate and link your mobile phone/token with your SingPass account.

7.3.2 Non-SingPass Holders

If you are not eligible to apply for SingPass, you will only receive the notification of examination results via post within a few days after the day of result release.

7.3.3 Where there is cause for suspicion that any examination rules or regulations have been breached,

SEAB may withhold the issuance of result slips and certificates to you, until investigations are completed.

7.3.4 You may not be issued result slip or certificate if you are found to be in breach of any examination

rules or regulations.

8.2 APPEAL FOR REVIEW OF RESULTS

8.2.1 If you are eligible for SingPass, you may apply to appeal for a review of your examination results

online through the internet Examinations Results Release System (iERRS), no later than 5 working days after the official release of the results.

8.2.2 If you are not eligible for SingPass, you may apply to appeal for a review of your examination

results by completing an appeal application form and paying the appeal fee(s) at MOE Customer Service Centre in person, no later than 5 working days after the official release of the results. The appeal application form can be obtained at MOE Customer Service Centre.

8.2.3 An appeal fee will be charged for each subject.

8.2.4 You will need to make payment at MOE Customer Service Centre, no later than 5 working days

after the official release of the results or the appeal application will not be processed.

8.2.5 Appeals received after the deadline or any appeals with outstanding payment will not be considered.

8.5 ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES

8.5.1 Successful candidates will be notified by post to collect the GCE N(T)/ N(A)/ O-Level and A-level

certificates by February and March of the following year respectively. This includes candidates taking only a Mid-Year subject in the GCE O- or A-Level examinations, provided they obtain a pass in at least one subject.

8.5.2 Certificates not claimed within one year from the first date of the collection period will be destroyed and no replacement will be available.

8.5.3 You may request for a re-print of your certificate if there is an error in your name. A service charge

of S$50 may be charged. You must make the request 2 months from the date of issue. All requests need to be submitted through the Ministry of Education, Customer Service Centre together with the original certificates personally.

SEAB does not issue duplicate copies of a certificate. You may purchase a

statement of results instead from the Ministry of Education Customer Service

8.6 OWNERSHIP OF ALL DOCUMENTS ISSUED TO CANDIDATES

8.6.1 All documents issued to you, including but not limited to result slips and certificates, are the property of SEAB and are provided to you on condition of strict compliance with the examination rules and regulations contained in this booklet.

8.6.2 SEAB may recall any issued documents from you at any time in its sole discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, the discovery of any breach of the examination rules and regulations.

8.6.3 You must comply with any demand or direction by SEAB to submit or surrender documents to

ANNEX B: ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPECIFIC SUBJECTS

EXAMINATION PAPERS WITH MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS

You will be issued answer sheets called Personalised Multiple-Choice Answer Sheets (referred to in these instructions as “PMCAS” to shade your answers for examination papers with Multiple-Choice questions. You are reminded that you should use a soft-lead pencil (e.g. 2B) to shade your answers in the PMCAS. A soft eraser should be used for erasure if you wish to change your answers. LISTENING COMPREHENSION All Listening Comprehension examinations are compulsory. Listening Comprehension examinations will be conducted through broadcast. You are advised to report to your examination centre punctually. SCIENCE PRACTICAL

You will receive a mail pouch informing you of your Science Practical examination schedule at least 2 weeks

before the exam date. The schedule will include information such as the exam centre, reporting venue, reporting time, exam start time, exam end time and dismissal time.

You should contact Ministry of Education, Customer Service at 6872 2220 if you do not receive your Science Practical examination schedule 2 weeks before the exam date.

It is important that you arrive at the designated reporting venue at the exam centre before the reporting time as stated in your Science Practical examination schedule. If you arrive after the Reporting Time, you may not be allowed to sit the Science Practical examination.

Science practical examinations are conducted in shifts. You are required to report to the reporting room before the start of the examination and you must report to the quarantine room after your examination. You must surrender all electronic devices upon reporting to the Exam Personnel. You will be quarantined before and after the examinations.

You may not be allowed to sit the Science Practical examination if you report after the scheduled reporting time for your allocated shift.

If you are found in possession of any electronic devices anytime at the reporting room, science laboratory or

quarantine room, be it before or after their Science Practical Examination, you are liable to the same penalty as those who commit an act of dishonesty.

You are not allowed to bring in any reference materials and/or any unauthorised materials, including the

Periodic Tables and/or devices as stipulated in the Examination Rules and Regulations (Section 5.3) into the science laboratory.

ORAL EXAMINATION

You will be scheduled to sit your oral examination on one specific day during the examination period. You should refer to your entry proof for the specific date that you have been scheduled to sit for your oral examination.

On the day of the examination, you will be required to report to the waiting room/area and wait for your turns to be examined by the oral examiners.

Upon reporting to the waiting room, you must surrender all unauthorised materials and electronic devices. If you are found in possession of such materials/electronic devices within the premises of the oral examinations (e.g. waiting room or examination room), you will be deemed to have committed an act of dishonesty.

A-Level LITERATURE IN ENGLISH Candidates offering Literature in English (8811 and 9748) may take the texts they have studied into the examination room with the following conditions:

Only non- electronic original texts (original published editions) should be taken into the examination room. Nothing else, including critical works or study notes of any kind, should be taken into the examination room. The use of dictionaries is not permitted.

Underlining and highlighting of texts

Only underlining, highlighting or the use of vertical lines in the margins is permitted. Nothing else should be written in the texts. Separate pieces of paper such as post-its and tape flags are not allowed.

Folding and Flagging of Pages

Any kind of folding or flagging of pages in texts (e.g. use of post-its, tape flags or paper clips) is not permitted. MOTHER TONGUE LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE Candidates offering the following papers may take the texts they have studied into the examination room with the following conditions:

A Materials that can be taken into the examination room

Only original texts (original published editions) should be taken into the examination room. Nothing else, including critical works or study notes of any kind, should be taken into the examination room. No photocopies or texts downloaded from the internet allowed. The use of dictionaries is not permitted.

An exception has been made for the H2 Malay Language & Literature text, Restu. For this text, photocopies of the text are permitted.

B Underlining and highlighting of texts Only underlining, highlighting or the use of vertical lines in the margins are permitted. Nothing else should be written in the texts. Separate pieces of paper such as post-its and tape flags are not allowed.

C Folding and Flagging of Pages

(1) Singapore Reset Procedures for TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators

Step 1: Make sure the calculator is off

Step 2: Press key while holding the and keys. You will see the following screen.

Step 3: Press the key to select “OK”. You will see the following screen with a blinking cursor on the upper

left corner. Leave the calulator on this “MEM cleared” screen for invigilators to check.

*Note that the screen should read MEM Cleared and not RAM cleared.

To reset all memory on the Texas Instrument graphic calculator, follow the following steps:

1. Press to display the MEMORY menu.

2. Select 7: Reset…3. From the RAM ARCHIVE ALL menu, press to display the

ALL menu.

4. Select 1: All Memory… to display the RESET MEMORY menu.

2017 GCE N(T)-, N(A)-, O- & A-LEVEL EXAMINATIONS Application for Withdrawal from Entire Examination

(Applicable for 2017 Private Candidates only)

1. This application form may take you 5 minutes to complete and will require the following information

2. All fields are mandatory and must be completed in English in clear BLOCK LETTERS.

3. Application for withdrawal must reach SEAB before the start of the year-end written examination.

4. Candidates may be given a 50% refund of subject fee paid (inclusive GST) if they submit their withdrawal requests to SEAB by 28 April

2017 for GCE N(T)- and N(A)-Levels and by 30 June 2017 for GCE O-Level and GCE A-Level.

5. For candidates who are entitled to a refund, the amount will be refunded to the candidate in approximately one month after approval by

SEAB.

6. No refund will be made to candidates whose requests are made after the respective deadlines.

7. The completed form and supporting documents (if any) has to be emailed to [email protected].
