SECONDARY SCHOOL New Parent Information Meeting and Student Orientation

Grades 6 to 12

Dear New Parents/Guardians, We would like to invite you to attend a Welcome Meeting in the theatre for new parents at Vienna International School on:

Monday, 25 August 2014 8:15 – 10:30 am

At the meeting we will:

• Provide information about the Secondary School • Introduce the Secondary Leadership Team • Explain the ‘first days’ procedure for new students • Give important information regarding other school services

Prior to the meeting, starting at 8:15, new students will have their photograph taken for our school records.

While parents are in the meeting, new students will be introduced to their Grade Level Leaders and then given a tour of the premises by some of our students from their grade level. The new students will be back in the cafeteria from their tour by 9:45.

There will also be an opportunity for you, the parents, to be taken on a tour of the school during the morning and you will also have the chance to meet and talk with the Grade Level Leaders when the students join you in the cafeteria on completion of the meeting and the tour.

Please let us know if you and your child/ren plan to attend by emailing the Secondary Office [email protected] by Monday, 25th August 2014.

We look forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely,

Summer 2014

SECONDARY SCHOOL Ambassador Programme @ VIS

Grades 6 to 12 Ambassador Programme @ VIS (Secondary School) Some of the big questions when moving to a new country or new school are ‘What is the school like?’ and ‘Who will I know?’ Our students understand what this is like as many have experienced this themselves. The VIS Ambassador programme sets out to make sure your child will have the answer to this question before they start school. The VIS Ambassador Programme works in two phases. Firstly you will be sent an email to pass on to your child from one of our students. Where possible this will be in your child’s mother tongue. The letter will include information about the school that our students think it is important for new students arriving at VIS to know. In the letter will also be the email address of one of our older students who will be able to answer any questions your child may have about VIS and life in Vienna. Once class timetables and Homerooms for the 2014/2015 school year have been finalised your child will be assigned a Homeroom Ambassador. This student, from their homeroom, will be their key person at VIS as they settle in. They will show them around the school on the orientation day, and then meet them on the morning of the first full day of school. In most cases there will be an opportunity for them to communicate with each other via email over the summer. The Homeroom Ambassador’s role is to make your child feel part of the school, and to spend time with them while they begin the process of making connections with the students that will eventually become their friends. During the first few weeks of school, events will be organised for new students and their Ambassadors to allow connections to be made between students in different homerooms in the grade. If you have questions about the VIS Ambassador Programme please feel free to contact me on [email protected] Yours sincerely, Ms. Kirsty Evitt Secondary School Counsellor
