Footnotes give the source of facts you have obtained from outside sources
Why Footnote?
“This is necessary for one reason only: your reader may want to consult the same text or document, for whatever reason, and so you must specify it.”

Footnote Used Correctly• An example of a footnote is:
A footnote is a note of reference, explanation or comment that is placed below printed text. It may also be a table or a chart.1 It shows where the information came from. The citation on the bottom of the page looks like this:
