Media Institutions

• Media Institutions are huge companies, often referred to as media conglomerates.

• Conglomerates are big enough to have full control over production and distribution.

• Independent companies can only produce the product, and so find another company to distribute it.

Vertically Integrated

• Vertically Integrated, this term means that they have control over Production, Distribution and Exhibition.

• An Example of this Sony in the electronics market, and Nike in the sport market.

Horizontally Integrated

• These companies may produce, for example, a film, and then also create video games and toys relating to that film.

• This is known as cross media marketing.

Decision• For my production, I have chosen to use a Vertically

Integrated company, who focuses solely on their main product.

• I have chosen IPC media. I looked at this institution in my research process, and have decided it would be ideal. They already create 85 different magazines, including one of my inspirations NME.

» Due to their experience and resources, I think they would get the best out of my magazine.
