Dear Friends—In my work as a therapist, I have noticed that a handful of common factors underlie depression, anxiety, anger, and other mental health conditions. It’s astonishing—while two people may express their emotions in different ways and have different diagnoses, their behavior can often be traced back to a single coping mechanism they have in common. After researching this phenomenon and identifying seven unhealthy coping styles that drive emotion regulation problems, I cowrote Mind and Emotions, a new workbook coming out this season for anyone who struggles with overwhelming emotions in ways that just don’t work.
New books we’re publishing this season help our readers improve their lives in different ways. For example, we are incredibly excited about Eat Naked—a revolutionary and fun guide to making the switch from eating unhealthy, pro-cessed foods to eating all-natural, “naked” foods that are wholesome and healthy. Another new title, True Belonging , features meditations that can help readers feel more connected in a world where meaningful connections with other people can be hard to find.
This season, we’re also debuting two brand new series: Zip Books and the Newly Diagnosed series. Zip Books are pocket-sized books that cover all the basics about specific mental health issues. They allow users to choose the level of complexity as well as the time they’d like to devote to exploring each subject. In as little as one hour, readers can learn about a condition and discover skills that have been proven effective to treat their symptoms. Books in our Newly Diagnosed series are just that, introductory guides that detail the first steps readers should take after receiving a mental health diagnosis. These books explain it all, compassionately and clearly.
If you know someone who can use these resources, chances are your customers do, too. Thank you, as always, for supporting New Harbinger in our effort to bring these resources to the people who need them.

Adult ADDA Guide for the Newly Diagnosedstephanie Moulton sarkis, Ph.d.
Foreword by Patricia O. Quinn, Md
■ Approximately 10 million American adults have
attention deficit disorder (ADD).
■ This is the first book targeted specifically to adults
who have just been diagnosed with ADD.
■ Stephanie Sarkis is author of 10 Simple Solutions to
Adult ADD.
When someone is first diagnosed with adult attention deficit disorder (ADD), what runs through his or her mind? Hundreds of questions, concerns, and realizations emerge at once, leaving the newly diagnosed person feeling relieved to finally have an explanation for their behavior, but also bewildered at the thought of what this may mean for the future. Adult ADD is a guide just for people like these, who have gone undiagnosed for years, only to find out in adulthood that there is an explanation for their disorganization and inability to focus. In this book, readers will deal with the myriad questions that arise in the wake of an ADD diagnosis: Should you tell people at work? What are you supposed to do to treat it? Does an ADD diagnosis mean you’re damaged or flawed? Who else has this disorder? Can you still have a family, friends, a job, and a normal life?
Books in the Newly Diagnosed series help readers not only understand the disorder and its treatment, but also help them find social support, work with a treatment team, decide who to tell about the diagnosis, and cope with the feelings they may have about the diagnosis itself. This book ensures that readers have all the tools they need to process the diagnosis in the healthiest way possible.

highlights the benefits of eating minimally prepared, fresh, and locally-grown food. In Eat Naked, nutritionist and holistic health counselor Margaret Floyd introduces readers to the easy-to-implement “eat naked” lifestyle.
Eating naked means eating without the extra sodium, corn syrup, additives, and packaging so common in the American diet. This book shows readers
simple ways to begin eating naked right away, offering guidance for eating naked in every food group and preparation techniques that help maximize the nutritional value of food. Divorce is difficult under the best of circumstances. Dealing with this inherently adversarial process can be highly emotional on both sides. But when a divorcing individual is a “persuasive blamer”—someone who suffers from borderline personality disorder (BPD), narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), or simply has a high-conflict, manipulative personality—their behavior can have devastating ramifications for their former spouses. Splitting is a legal and psychological guidebook that everyone seeking a divorce from a persuasive blamer should own. Written by Bill Eddy, a family lawyer, divorce mediator, and experienced social worker, and Randi Kreger, BPD expert and author of the bestselling Stop Walking on Eggshells, it offers readers help for navigating the entire process of divorce: hiring and managing a divorce lawyer, reaching a reasonable settlement, protecting oneself and one’s children from emotional and/or physical abuse from the former spouse, resisting false accusations, and getting enforceable court orders. The book also delves into the difficult-to-understand, aggressive behavior of persuasive blamers, offering readers psychological explanations for their former spouse’s actions and help for coping emotionally with the spouse’s extreme mood swings and impulsivity.
Bill Eddy, LCSW, JD, has been a family lawyer for over eighteen years and a therapist for
over twelve years. He is a faculty member at Pepperdine university school of law and the
national Judicial college. He lives in san diego, ca.

of the bestselling Five Good Minutes® series, which

author of the bestselling Calming Your Anxious Mind
(ISBN: 978-1-57224-4870), which has sold nearly 100,000
copies.
■ This book is a pocket-sized antidote to feelings of
disconnection, loneliness, and alienation.
We are social beings designed for interdependence, attachment, and bonding. Although technological advancements have allowed us to have nearly instant contact with everyone in the world, there is substantial evidence that people feel more lonely and isolated than ever before. This book is specifically aimed at anyone who feels disconnected or alone who longs for richer relationships and a deeper sense of connection with others.
In True Belonging , readers learn to free themselves of loneliness and a sense of isolation through mindfulness exercises that foster a feeling of unity and connectedness. Instead of seeing the outside world as something completely apart from oneself, readers come to notice and explore their interdependence with all of life, and learn to treat themselves more kindly and make contributions to ensure the well-being of others. These practices offer practical tools for helping readers shift their view from one of disconnection and isolation to a more mindful and compassionate perspective. In the wake of breakups, deaths, depression, and day-to-day malaise, this book of simple exercises and meditations can help readers see that all moments are alive with possibility, and we as individuals are connected to the world around us.

Mind and EmotionsA Universal Treatment for Emotional DisordersMatthew Mckay, Ph.d., Patrick Fanning, and
Patricia Zurita Ona, Psy.d.
■ About 57.7 million American adults suffer from a
diagnosable mental disorder every year.
■ Readers will learn the 7 unhealthy coping styles that
lead to mental health conditions.
■ Combined, Matthew McKay’s books have sold over 2
million copies.
Emotions have a specific evolutionary purpose: to spur us toward actions that help us survive. The thoughts and behaviors that result from our attempts to cope with these difficult, unstoppable emotions can create deeply entrenched patterns that do more harm than good, causing depression, anger, anxiety, and suffering. Mind and Emotions is the first book to reveal the seven unhealthy coping styles that are at the root of all suffering and emotional disorders.
In this book, readers learn to recognize the critical moment when an emotion reveals itself in behavior and work toward acknowledging that they have a choice in that moment. Little by little, through exercises, worksheets, and daily practice, readers develop a new way of coping with negative emotions. This universal treatment offers readers the most effective techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for facing difficult emotions and reconnecting to core values. Instead of treating each problem individually, readers can identify their core coping styles and use this information to heal their emotional suffering and make lasting life changes.

practice, he specializes in the cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety, anger, and
depression.
