    1.1. Using an Internet Browser

You can use an Internet Browser to download the files. To do this you must connect to the following address:

ftp://dyna:[email protected]/pc-dyna/971 (please ask the password from CADFEM)

If you have a one processor license, please download the file

    singlecpu971_s_7600.exe

If you have a two processor license, please download the file

multiplecpu971_s_7600.exe If you have a 64bit Windows operating system, please download the file

ls971_s_7600_winx64_p-install.exe You can save this selected file to an arbitrary location on your computer. These executables include ls-dyna and program manager, pre and post processing, keyword manual and sample files. The file size is 100 MB. Depending on your connection it can take a while until it is transferred. To install PC-DYNA, please follow the steps described in chapter 2.

  • 1.2. Using the ftp command

Open a command window, where you can launch the ftp command. Change to a directory where you want to save the installation package temporarily. Execute the ftp command:

    2. Installing 2.1. Uncompress

Make sure, that you are logged in as administrator. To install the program please open the directory where you have downloaded the installation package. The file is compressed. By double clicking on the file it will start to uncompress itself. By default a directory called lsdyna-setup (or another temporary name) on hard disc drive c will be created. This is a temporary directory to store the setup files during installation. It can be removed after installation was successful.

  • 2.2. Setup

After uncompressing the installation package the installation wizard should start automatically. If not, open the directory you have written the uncompressed files to and double click on the icon called setup.exe. The installation wizard is starting and will guide you through the next steps (Fig. 1). Follow the instructions. During the installation you are asked, where you want to install PC-DYNA. By default PC-DYNA is installed in the folder c:\LS-DYNA.

Fig. 1 If you want to install PC-DYNA in another folder, choose browse, and select the desired folder. It is very important that the folder name does NOT include any spaces (like PROGRAM FILES)! When the installation is complete, quit with

    Finish

    2.3. Post-Installation Procedures

It is necessary that all users have write permission to the file manager.ini located in the LSDYNA directory. Once you have installed LS-DYNA, you can delete the directory lsdyna-setup. But make sure not to delete the directory, you have installed PC-DYNA in.

  • 3. Registration 3.1. Node locked license

3.1.1. License key To use the program you first have to get a license key. Open the LS-DYNA Manager by

Start>Programme>LS-DYNA>LS-DYNA Manager or by double click to the icon Manager.exe in the LSDYNA folder. Open the registration menu (Fig. 2):

    License>Registration

  • Fig. 2 Enter the necessary data. Save the data by clicking the button

Save lstc.log file Choose a directory where you want to save the file. We recommend to save the file in the same directory, where you have installed LS-DYNA. This file contains the necessary data to create a license key. You are automatically asked if you want to send the file via e-mail. If you want to send the file immediately click Yes if you want to send the file later click No. Send the file to: [email protected] (dont forget to attach the file!) A license key will be created an will be mailed back to you. Rename your license file to:

LSTC_FILE and save it in the directory you have installed PC-DYNA in. 3.1.2. Environment Variable To finish the Registration, you have to set a Environment Variable with the name LSTC_FILE. This contains the location, where PC-DYNA is looking up the license key. Open the Systems properties: On Windows 2000 choose:

    Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Environment Variables (Start>Einstellungen>Systemsteuerung>System>Erweitert>Umgebungsvariablen)

    On Windows XP choose:

Start>System Tasks>View System Information>Advanced>Environment Variables The following window appears (Fig. 4):

  • On Windows NT or

    On Windows 2000 Fig. 4

  • As Variable enter the name LSTC_FILE. As Value or Wert enter the full name of the license file including path of the directory, where the file (LSTC_FILE) is located. Please dont forget the file name extension, if there is any. Typically you get the license file with an extension .lic. You can remove it or keep it, in the latter case it must be part of Value or Wert. You should now be able to use PC-DYNA. We wish you the very best success with the LS-DYNA program.

    3.2. Network license

    4. Software Update The PC-DYNA installation package contains a default version of the LS-DYNA solver which should run on a wide range of processors. For the newest Intel and AMD processor types, optimized executables are available. You can also update from a single processor to a multiple processor version or to a double precision version only by adding the desired LS-DYNA executable in to the program folder. You can download such executables in the same manner like described in chapter 1. They are located on the ftp site in the folder

pc-dyna/971/update_lsdyna (32bit) or pc-dyna/971/update_lsdyna_x64 (64bit) This directory always contains the updated versions of PC-DYNA 971 with the following naming conventions, e.g.:

    ls971_s_revision_win32_p.zip

  • ls971_d_revision_win32_p.zip where ls971 is version 971 (SMP) s is single precision d is double precision revision is revision number, higher number is newer revision

win32 is the computer platform (may be also winx64 for 64bit) p is multiple CPU (parallel) version ansys is coupled with ANSYS output format zip is zipped file Updated executables can be copied in the program folder of the PC-DYNA installation directory. This directory can contain as many executables as you want if they have different file names. There are also updated versions available for the pre-postprocessor LS-PREPOST. They are located on the ftp site in the folder

pc-dyna/971/update_lsprepost Updated pre-postprocessors can also be copied in the program folder of the PC-DYNA installation directory.
