Year 3-4 Tree Planting
Students from Rooms 2, 3 & 4
participated in tree planting along the
Esperance foreshore on Wednesday 2nd
August. With the guidance of the
Environmental Officer from the
Esperance Shire, students planted tree
seedlings from Phyllis Street to La Page
Street. Thank you to the parent helpers
who assisted us and braved the cold and
windy weather conditions.
Dear Parents
CENSUS - Last week schools completed the August Census. The information provided will inform planning for future
funding allocations, staffing, facilities and infrastructure. 86 students were identified as having a disability (physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional). These students all have a formal plan developed and parents are involved in decisions about
appropriate adjustments made to better support their child’s learning. We are working with additional students and families to ensure best funding is available to meet the needs of all students going forward.
STAFFING - Mrs Mather has been on an extended period of leave. In her absence, Mrs Fetherston has been the Acting Deputy Principal and I wish to thank her most sincerely for the very positive manner in which she has provided leadership
to the school community. We look forward to Mrs Mather’s return to school, and following that Mrs Fetherston will be taking a period of well-earned long service leave.
Mr Palmer will continue to be on leave until Week 2 of Term 4. Both Mrs Weckert (2 days per week) and Mrs Brand
(3 days per week) will provide leadership to the school during this period, to backfill for Mr Palmer. Specific roles and responsibilities they will manage include – National Quality Standards (NQS) review, Students at Education Risk profiling
and management of Attendance, Behaviour, Social/Emotional, Medical and Physical factors and specific Learning Difficulties. They will also establish a focus for the incoming 2018 kindergarten cohort (63 students at present) to build relationships
and to work with parents and agencies so that required support/resources are in place prior to our new students commencing school next year. Mrs Coupar, a very experienced teacher, has been appointed to the school and will teach
Mrs Weckert’s class on Tuesdays and Fridays. She will also be providing significant support to the K-2 teachers during other times across the week.
SCHOOL PLANNING 2018 - I have commenced planning for the class structure and teacher placements for next year. This includes advertising vacant teaching positions, identifying target programs and making best use of existing
infrastructure and resources. These matters will be presented to the School Board for consideration and direction.
PARENT EVENING - In Week 9, on Thursday 14 September, all parents are invited to an Open Night here at the school. We are delighted to provide this opportunity for parents to visit classrooms and to discuss their child’s learning journey in
2017 with them specifically. Parents can engage and view workbooks, items on display and interesting aspects of the learning program relevant to their child. Students are always very proud to have their parents come to the classroom and
to be able to demonstrate achievements and progress they are making. We look forward to having as many parents as possible attend our Parent Open Night.
READING EGGS - On 23 August Tracey Hodgkinson from 3PL will be here at School to provide training and up-skilling to
all teachers on our on-line Reading Eggs program. This is a brilliant learning program and our licence conditions give parents access at home. Consequently, we have negotiated with Tracey to hold a training session for parents on the same
day after school and at no cost. We hope you can take the opportunity to learn how best to use Reading Eggs at home with your child.
Kind regards
Colin Brand Principal

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL PRACTICE
Castletown Primary School Athletics practice is
underway!
Students from year 1-6 are preparing for the Sports
Carnival in week 8. Most afternoons the classroom
teachers have been taking the students out for athletics
practice and trials.
During this time students get their jumps and throws
and running races recorded. This gives the teachers a
chance to pick the top 2-3 athletes from each faction
for the competitive events. This time has also allowed
the students time to build a sense of tribal camaraderie
with their fellow faction team members.
A little shout out to the amazing staff and sports
captains for working together and braving the weather
to ensure our students get the best opportunity to
succeed on the day.
Just a reminder…….
School starts at 8.50am. Please ensure children are
arriving at school in a timely manner ready to start the
school day.
