    Dear Parents

We are now officially in to winter! Where does time go? An increasing number of students are being sent home from school

due to sickness and we appreciate the support of families when this occurs. Importantly, when children are kept home due to

sickness we really appreciate the effort parents make to inform us in a timely manner.

Reconciliation Week – This week is an important one for all Australians as we focus on

and reflect on the importance of reconciliation. At Assembly yesterday, Student Councillors

Lachie McGrinder, Daniel Spencer and Fraser Florisson gave the first official

Acknowledgement of Country. The very respectful manner in which they modelled our new

protocol was appreciated by everyone and the response from Elder Doc Reynolds gave

context to our focus on, and the significance of, Reconciliation Week. That we now fly the

Aboriginal flag at school enhances our opportunity to progress the virtues of respect,

    tolerance and consideration.

Book Fair – Many thanks to the P & C for again hosting the fabulous Book Fair. The interest and engagement of students

and families has been fantastic! The focus Castletown Primary School places on the importance of Reading programs like RIBIT

(Reading In Bed Is Terrific) and targeted Book Fairs do make a difference for students. The Pirate Flag Competition gave a

wonderful opportunity for students to be creative and it was extremely difficult to judge. Congratulations to the winners!

Student Councillors – All Student Councillors deserve our thanks and recognition for the increased leadership and positive

role-modelling they are demonstrating in our school. Our sincere thanks for the lead they are taking in organising playground

activities for all students, giving Acknowledgement to Country and supporting students at the Book Fair all week. Well done!

Reports – Teachers are working seriously hard to prepare Semester 1 Reports for students. I have been very impressed with

the assessments, moderation and the professional manner that all considerations are given to prepare reports on student

    achievement and progress this year.

    Principal’s Message — Mr Brand

  • THE VIRTUES PROJECT WHAT IS FRIENDLINESS? Friendliness is being a friend. It is taking an interest in other people. It is going out of your way to make others feel welcome or to make a stranger feel at home. When you are friendly, you happily share your belongings, time, ideas and feelings. You share the good times and the bad times together. Friendliness is the best cure for loneliness. WHY PRACTISE FRIENDLINESS? Friendliness keeps you and others from feeling lonely or left out. It helps people feel that they belong. When something good or bad happens, it feels good to share it with a friend. Friendships don’t just happen – they are made by people who are willing to be themselves with each other. HOW DO YOU PRACTISE FRIENDLINESS? Friendliness begins by liking yourself and believing you have something to share with others. Be kind to people you don’t know. You can be friendly just by walking down the veranda, looking into people’s faces and smiling. They will probably smile back. Show your friends you are glad to see them, by asking how their day is going and sharing your news with them. SIGNS OF SUCCESS You are practising Friendliness when you Like yourself and realise you have a lot to offer Smile and greet someone you don’t know Get to know someone and let them get to know you Show an interest in others Show caring when a friend needs you Are friendly to people who look and act different

  • ‘Have a Go Day’ was a fantastic day organised by Esperance Primary School to enable students to try new sports and interact with other Schools. Primary Schools around Esperance participated in six different sports. These sports included Hockey, Badminton, Ultimate Frisbee, Lawn Bowls, Squash, Volleyball and Yoga. Instructors and Specialist coaches ran a two hour session with the students in their chosen sports.

While the weather did not turn it on for us, our students were in great spirits. I thoroughly enjoyed watching our students challenge themselves to try new things and meet new people.

Thank you to all of the teachers and parent helpers! I believe the students benefited not only physically but socially/emotionally from this day. Miss Sarah Ebbott

encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy

  • SCABIES

    What is scabies?

Human scabies is caused by an infestation of the skin by the human itch mite (Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis). The microscopic scabies mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays its eggs.

Scabies is found worldwide and affects people of all races and social classes. Scabies can spread rapidly under crowded conditions where close body and skin contact is frequent. Institutions such as nursing homes, extended-care facilities and prisons are often sites of scabies outbreaks. Child care facilities are also a common site of scabies infestations.
